I love it! However, you still should be using a cable clamp at both ends of the box. Maybe if they added some tabs like a new work box? Still love it though, such a great idea!!

Whats the sifference between this and a junction box?

Super. I have been doing this for decades. I just put two or three notches in a plastic box, lay the wires in, check the connections, nail or screw flush in place, and add a cover. Sometimes, if it is two Romex wires, I will stick both through a 1/2 inch clamp, redo the connection, then add the box to the clamp, then flush mount the box. Works great, and it is easier to splice wires that are too short and in a bad place without having a box in the way. Normally, however, I completely redo, replace, or bypass the connection, if I can, because after seeing things like this, you just can't trust the rest of the wiring, and I like safety. 💙 T.E.N.

An off the shelf de-shitter. Excellent.
You could have a dedicated boxer running along behind the terminator on new builds with this too.
It would be great in commercial ceiling voids.

If i find a splice in the wild, there is no way im trusting the connections, the whole thing is coming apart so may as well just use a regular box.

I've used the Tyco Non Metallic Splice and Tap kits, Works great on a straight splice .Accommodates 12 & 14 awg nm cable, great when you need to length to an existing circuit. Especially if you don't have room for a box. Legally becomes it's own box that can go behind drywall.

Thought you had to put a metal box for a junction

Not sure why a junction box with terminals was not used.

Cool. But how is this different to a regular plastic junction box?

Splice boxes but be accessible without damage to the buildings structure or finishes. This isn’t code. They cannot be concealing in ceilings, walls, attics or subfloors.

I used this box in my basement for a hiding place for whatever.
Run dead end wires to another real box or to where it looks like it's going somewhere.
Thieves don't like messing around with electricity.

A number of my open splices are soldered and wrapped with the old black friction tape.
They've held up for 80+ years so there's that.

don't tell, but I've been custom making these for years.

Time saver I suppose, but it doesn't take much longer to unsplice that and stick it in a metal 4" square box
