Windows 3.0 Build 14 is a primitive version of Windows 3.0 that only contains the MS-DOS Executive unchanged from Windows 2. This build is considered a check/debug build. It is known internally as Pre-Release 0.1 and Debug Release 1.14. This is the first Prerelease version of Windows 3.0 that we have access to, although it is not the first build of Windows 3.0 to exist. The application library used to run 3rd party Windows 2.x apps is missing in this build, making it impossible to run any apps designed for Windows 2.x in this build. In the actual build, there are 3 interesting things about it. The first of these is that the version number is listed in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop. The second is that there is no bootscreen, instead displaying a warning debug screen while starting up. The last thing is that it includes a hidden option to unlock patterns for the wallpaper, something that would later be revealed in the newly designed Control Panel with designated applets for each setting.
