He speaks of the difference of shooting cinema and shooting stills. He explains why he wanted to publish a book of his photos from over the years. And he answers the question "Do you still photographs reveal more of you than your movie work?". An interesting conversation!

Full disclosure, I also do live in Fargo North Dakota. I don't often hear someone else mention that so openly, was a bit surprised. This conversation was great. I've been watching alot of these filmmaking discussions recently, specifically Cinematography highlight discussions with Roger Deakins and Greig Fraser. Thanks for making this available.

How and why did this little gem get on to the internet is beyond me but I am eternally grateful it did.
I can't get enough of Rogers thinking and mindset.
I'm a part of the most pretentious generation ever. When you ask some pretentious artists why they made a specific piece of art they can usually go on and on about it like a broken record.
Yet mister Deakins, one of the best cinematographers the world has ever seen a lot of times just goes: "I don't know. I found it interesting somehow".
That's amazing! If Roger can afford to not know something, so can we.
