OX Carbon Pencil VS. PICA DRY Pencil which one should you get ? Electrician Tools

In this video you'll get to see the difference between the PICA dry pencil in the ox carbon pencil both are unique in their own ways but they are the same in a lot of ways as well In the video we will check out on different surfaces what each one is capable of

We'll start with the standard which is going to be how does it write on on EMT conduit

then we go to cardboard then drywall both do extremely good

The biggest difference between the 2 is where the sharpener is located the sharpener on the PICA DRY pencil is going to be located on the bottom of the case case and as for the ox it is located on the top where it is more accessible Once it has been inserted into a pocket is the Apocalypse more convenient mute more accessible overall in my opinion this my opinion this is what sets the ox ahead of the PICA DRY

@OXTOOLS1975 is the winner 🏆

PICA DRY was a close second though

I have an ox and although the sharpener is in a better location, it needs to be tapped/cleared out mulitiple times per sharpen. Negating its preferable location.

I'm not going to lie, I thought the tests were a bit silly at first, until you did the drywall one and showed a noticeable difference. Interesting. I have the Pica and just ordered the Ox to try another one out, plus i like that its square so when im doing joist layout on top plates it wont roll off if i set it down.

I felt like I settled for the Ox but this makes me feel better about my choice! Pica just has the branding power I guess. Nice video🔥

Man, that sharpener location is really neat. I have the Pica and that annoys me about it all the time.

I use the pica because it has the fluorescent green and its easy to see when it’s not in the sheath. The sharpener is fine on the end because the leads are messy and it would get my overalls dirty if I didn’t remove to sharpen because that’s where I keep it. Pica is also the most durable writing tool I’ve used. I keep an extra just in case

I had my pica for a few months, the clip ended up getting loose and it fell out of my pocket. After i lost it I just picked up an ox at my local lowes which is a plus for me that its available in stores.

This video has nothing to do with the pencil itself in reality your comparing the leads of the pencils of each of the brands and how they well they mark on different surfaces which in reality doesn't matter which brand of pencil they are in. Pica dixon ox hiboom etc they all take 2.8mm refills so technically it's more of which style lead holder you like and which brand of refills to use after all just because you have pica or dixon or whatever doesn't mean you can't use an off brand refill in stay away from Amazon and the cheap Chinese crap but if you can get say 10 ox refills for the same price as 5 pica refills for your pica brand pencil why wouldn't you do it....it's no different than using a Dewalt bit set in a milwaukee drill it still gets the job done.

With that being said I recommend a durability test of the pencils as well as long term functionality in "real world" conditions drop them in water or saw dust throw them to the floor etc anything to simulate what may actually happen to these pencils other than just in a woodshop or marking electrical boxes after all they have more than one application metals, brick/stone, tile, wood, foam board, glass, paper, pvc, etc. I mean I've used lumber crayons to mark ductwork sheet metal because it's the only thing that showed up on them visibly enough from the distance the same with children's sidewalk chalk go grab a box from Walmart different colors on the cheap and watch it fade away over time

Are you kidding me! The best pencil is the ones the supplier gives me for free…..

one of the things that the ox drives me insane is when I have trouble putting it back in its holder when I have it clipped in my shirt pocket. What happens is that the OX has a big hole on the side of the holder, so the pencil always seem to get caught in that hole.

I am probably not going to sharpen my Ox pencil while it's mounted on the bag anyway. It's pretty powdery messy.

Do they both take the same size and style of carbon

Nope, the Pica is much better quality

Personally I use the Ox and Rite in the Rain 1.3mm pencils. These two pencils are indispensable when it comes to my job and I strongly recommend anyone who cares about their work enough to buy their own supplies go out and get these because you won’t regret it and you can thank me later.

Does the pica lead fit in the ox? The Pica seems darker and more matte

I like the pica because you can re insert it easy as opposed to the ox square body. I have both pica was my first the decided to give ox a try.

I recently bought the ox pencil and after about a week the clicker just stopped working. Couldn't get it with work so just snapped it in half and to the trash it went.
