I Am the Good Shepherd (John 10: 9-10, 14-16)

It's always special to write a song from the perspective of Jesus and the words He wanted preserved in the text of Scripture.

Sheep are actually not as dumb as commonly thought. They actually have a measure of intelligence and complexity. Still, they are not and cannot compete with cunning apex predators. They are prone to attack and need each other to survive both physically and socially because they were not designed to live isolated lives.

But what they need most of all is a good shepherd and to be able to find the door to safety in a sheepfold.

Jesus tells us that He is both the Good Shepherd and the Door and that we are His sheep if we belong to Him by faith. Despite the endless threats and thieves that surround us, we can safely graze under His protection and watchful eye because He loves us.

But we your people, the sheep of your pasture, will give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise. (Psalm 79:13)
