ASM TechTalk: DIY SPLITTER, Track Tested & Proven With Results | ASMotorsports

In this TechTalk, we go through every step of making your own hardware store-spec splitter or undertray. It's easy to overpower the aero balance of a street car with just about any wing, making a car understeer too quickly; offset that aero balance with a relatively simple and easy-to-make splitter or undertray.

They key is finding a mounting solution that works for your chassis, then paying attention to details in air flow, like airdam and tire spats, to achieve maximum efficiency. We've run this style splitter or undertray on our track S2000s and more, leading to dozens of wins and records.

I like the aluminum L method for mounting the air dam. This is nice, easy, clean, and cheap!

Great stuff! Would be cool to see you guys show this off on track. Quick before/after to show what it does for the aero balance and or top speed.

Nice! Functional, cheap, and character building mods are the best mods. Check out the Acura ARX-06 and the slot they have behind the rear wheel, use that as inspiration for your next, functional cheap and character building mod. It's more effective than you think!

That's funny. That's exactly how I got the contour in the carbon sheet I used for my switch panel!

what thickness were the carbon fiber sheets you used for the tire spats? you mentioned 1mm but they look a little thicker. also, do they hold its shape after cooling? and during testing, did you find them to push back and into the tire well from drag at high speeds due to mounting points? also, my widebody evo has its inner fender lips cut, any suggestions on how to attach this piece to the fender well?

What roll of material is that for the air dam? Home Depot stock it? lol

Wouldn't riveting the wheel spats to the bumper and splitter defeat the purpose of the quick disconnect on the splitter?

Don’t air spats create insane amount of drag on a low hp car like an s2000?

I'm surprised it's only attached by those two brackets.
