in Canada a group of us had just left a lodge to take a hike on a trail that led away from the lodge when momma bear and two cubs rounded a corner of the trail and we saw each other at the same time and stopped. momma bear nudged the cubs and up a tree scurried the cubs she raised up on her hind legs and our group slowly backed away. mom watched us for a few minutes then the cubs came back down and the three of them walked away from us at about a ninety degree angle. we waited a bit before resuming our walk. didn't see them again.
