The GTX 980 is over 10 years old now. I think a 980 Ti would be better. Maybe a Titan X Maxwell if you can find it. They go for $100 and $150 used respectively.

You could also get the Quadro M6000 24GB if you really want the highest end Maxwell card. It'll game at the same speed as the Titan, but with way more vram if you want to crank up textures.
