One thing I have noticed ever since the change of guard in USA-

1. During Trump's tenure of 4 years, it was Xi Jinping that used to call for repeated meetings. You can call it Trump's personality of being unorthodox in Foreign relations or Trade War that made China jittery but Trump was pretty good for both USA's internal economy as well as Foreign relations (atleast as far as countering China was concerned).

2. During Biden's first year itself we are seeing him go down on his knees to press for a meeting, waving hands as if they are enjoying a virtual picnic. Damn America has really fallen badly & unfortunately continues to do so further. From a Superpower who commanded respect (even though if it wasn't out of will but fear of opposing a Superpower) to a Superpower who is going down on it's knees to gain attention of it's biggest adversary.

Trump understood the need to slightly normalize relations with Russia in order to take on China. Biden is neither being able to normalize relations with Russia, (infact it has worsened them & pushing Russia more towards China) nor is being able to effectively take on China, as a matter of fact even it's allies are wondering if they should bank upon the US to provide regional security anymore. All this is giving China a free run.
