As soon as I saw the display cases I recognized the store. I was in there last a short time after 9/11 and purchased 2 sets for my boys. I remember one was an alien set, can’t recall the other but they’re still around, stored in the attic. I might have to take them down. This store was always well stocked. Had everything. Hope it’s still around.

Excellent breakdown of the differences between sizes, scales, and gauges in model trains! 🚂 It's incredibly helpful for both newcomers and seasoned hobbyists to have such a clear and concise guide. The visual comparisons really aid in understanding the practical implications of each choice.

I'm curious, do you have a personal preference for a specific scale or gauge based on your experience? And how do you decide which scale is best for a new project or layout?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insights—this video is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in diving deeper into the world of model railroading. Keep up the great work! 🛤👍

Thank you for the lesson, I though "gauge" and "scale" were the same thing.

At 1:50 text is incorrect. Gauge is not the distance between the outside of the tracks. Gauge is the distance between the inside of the tracks. That is the space in between in which the flanges of the wheels of the rolling stock must fit. Since the width of the rails can vary the space between the rails would also vary if is was between the outsides.

Love your videos. My wife and I are senior citizens, and are looking to get a HO starter set We are torn between Lionel and Bachman. They both have intriguing sets that are reasonably priced at your store on the web site. I don't know if i can get an answer, but which would you, or your followers recommend? Thank you.

My grandson is just getting into the age where he likes trains. We have limited space and was thinking I would have a table about 4x8. What size do you suggest? Thank you!

Interesting. I would suppose that O and HO are the more popular gauges?

Not really much information about the different sizes, scales, and gauges. Mostly, it's a commercial for TrainWorldTv.

Do you stock British engines & rolling stock, if so, is there such a model as an Adam’s Tank Engine? It’s a cute little steam engine that was used on the Isle of Wight. My father worked for that company & it would be great to have a working model.

It would have been helpful to show more of the actual difference between the sizes, ie, each gauge going around a track, rather than unknown gauges of unknown trains going around and around a track in a shop. That says nothing about anything.

Argh, talking is so much more helpful than just reading.

I have a question, I have an old (20yr old) Bachmann set and I can't tell if it's N or HO. I have measured the rails. I have gotten both 16 and 9mm. Am I measuring top of rail to top or inside to inside?
