It's hard to tell where in new york they were hanging out. Touristy places like times square are clean because of the Times Square Business Improvement District where all these companies pay for extra cleaning. They started that in the 90s, it's the reason times square is no longer a red light district

I'll be honest though, the Hololive crew came here at a really good time. Great weather for the end of Summer. And I'd like to think that wherever they're staying, trash day was the day right before they arrived.

In my experience most bigger cities (including the one I live in) keep the areas with high tourist concentration pretty clean, but they're are always dirty somewhere else. I think that is normal. A spotless city would have a somewhat dystopian feel to it.

They are not wrong about the weather. In north-eastern North America up until a week ago it had been much like the talents have been describing Japan lately: hot and very humid. Then there were heavy rains and storms which cooled everything and brought the humidity down, staying that way until now. Although it is beginning to warm up again. It might have been the recent wildfires elsewhere causing the storms here.

As someone from New York I can say that places like Manhattan where most tourists visit, the city makes sure its well taken care of so it’s understandable that it doesn’t seem dirty compared to rumors lol

New York isn't as bad as it used to be, and Los Angeles isn't as good as it used to be. They've gone from high functioning alcoholics to just drunks in expensive clothes that are long overdue for a trip to the dry cleaners but they're trying to save money this month and hoping nobody will notice. But people have in fact started to notice.

NYC was damn filthy last time I visited, but that was like 15 years ago. Rats everywhere in the subways, lots of homeless and trash all over the place.
