I have actually been to the compound this cult resided at in Oregon. It’s kinda in the middle of nowhere next to a tiny town. I think it was eventually turned into a Christian summer camp after the cult was disbanded. That is very ironic to me.

I remember watching the Neflix documentary on this ("Wild Wild Country") when it came out 5-6 years ago. It might be the single best deep-dive into a cult and how it operated I've ever seen. You just don't typically get nearly that many detailed first-hand accounts about a religious cult.

It also makes you think a bit more deeply about the limits of religious freedom in a country literally founded on that principle.

Oregonian here, my grandpa used to sell agriculture equipment and he actually went out to the compound in Antelope; he said it was super weird and everyone he interacted with was odd.

If any one is passing through that area of Oregon, especially on the way to the Painted Hills, it’s worth a stop in Antelope to at least get a picture at the old school house. Very desolate place
