3:46 It's less the fact that it is now USB-C, than the presence of a USB3 controller on the Pro Max, which enables higher throughput connectivity.

I still have iPhone 8, I think I'll upgrade to the 15 NOW!

I think the external recording makes the lower storage option more viable considering you can record to something like a t5. Storage on the phone wont be an issue

8:09 about in the same camp except I began with 3GS and was on the S cycle until the X, then decided to hold it, thinking there wouldn't be any real significant changes after...and I was kind of right. The only major thing I cared for was the night mode that came after.

Decided now to order the 15 pro, and while everyone is complaining about the phone being the same overall, for someone like me, it's an upgrade that makes sense for the price now.

I recommend everyone else do the same, unless you don't care to burn a grand or more for a phone, then by all means, for everyone else, try to hold onto your phones until you "need" to upgrade. It makes more sense.

I'll be upgrading to a 15 PM 1tb from my 13 PM 512gb. The 5x camera is an essential upgrade for my bird watching and wildlife shots! Not to mention upgrades all around. Looking forward to those lens tests!

My hope is that the log format is a true flat profile without a lot of the sharpening we see on iPhone footage. That would go a long long way to improving footage. I like where they going though. Never imagined external recording being a supported feature on an iPhone.

Coming from a 14 Pro Max this update will be a no for me. I can already record in 4k ProRes. Yes, it takes some time to transfer, but I can live with it :)

Thanks for all the information. Can't wait to see some of your tests.

External recording, LOG, and ACES are all great but the one thing that no one knows yet is if they fixed the two issues that plagued video on other iPhones... flaring and over-sharpening. If these are fixed then it's massive but if not, then the iPhone will still just be a "phone camera".

I’m definitely upgrading the ability to record to an external is a game changer

At 6:05 you said larger sensor, and I've seen this a lot (even MKBHD said it) but Apple said the iPhone 15 Pro had a larger sensor than the 15, NOT the 14 Pro. It looks like the main sensors are identical for the 14 Pro and 15 Pro.

I liked the form factor of lightning as back in the usb-a days it was amazing that you could plug it in either way and it was a strong connection. Absurd that they never updated the file transfer speeds. I’ll probably end up getting the 15 pro max for the usb-c data transferring, external recording, and the vr/spatial video seems interesting. 4k60 cinema recording is at plus. I wish they upgraded the slow mo capturing to 4k and I wish they made the aperture sizes larger rather than smaller

Do not forget that the cable that comes with the iPhone 15 pro does not support 10Gb/s. It has to be bought separately, LOL.

I’m upgrading for the transfer speed alone. Transferring over 350gb of footage is a pain with the 14 Pro and USB2 speeds.

I wanted to get the Iphone 15 Pro max but with the 5x zoom replacing 3x and using apples digital crop for 3x-4.9x making quality worse in that range I think I have to get the Iphone 15 pro even though I wanted a bigger screen. I don't take 5x as much as I would 3x and would rather have the 3x camera.

How will the portraits work on the iPhone 15 pro Max with the 5x lens ? I am very confused.
The 1x lens won't give beautiful portraits like a 3x lens. The shape of the face is different.

Well said. I have the 14 pro max 1TB precisely for the specs and storage for video. The longest I’ve done are about 25 minute clips where even in 4K 60 I have enough drive space for several of them and to edit them right in the phone. I do have a video editing software on my computer, but rarely use it unless I need to do extended touches like titles and additional effects. I upgraded last year from a 7 plus with only 120 GB. It proved to be a pain because of the storage capacity from which I learned my lesson. I won’t be upgrading to the 15 pro max as it’s not enticing enough unless at least, two of the three lenses were 48 MP. Also there’s still the overheating issue with these. We don’t know if there has been any improvements. If you want to mitigate the heat issue for longer recording times, you’ll have to use one of those magnetic cooling fans on the phone which I’ve done. Especially when filming outside on hot days.

Got my 15 Pro Max 1TB today. Looking forward to taking advantage of the new features - Apple Log, 4K60 ProRes, and plugging my ultra fast little SSD into it - no file transfer when done shooting - just plug it into the Mac and start editing. AND, it’s lighter. That’s a lot of wins.

I really wish they brought cinematic mode up to 4K 60 because that in itself would had me sold on leaving my 13PM. That’s gonna be next level when they bump up to 60 in the cinematic mode.
