OUHK - Livelihood Impacts of Sustainable Fishery Policy: Case Studies in the South China Sea

In this programme, Dr Karen Liu, Assistant Professor, School of Arts and Social Sciences, The Open University of Hong Kong, discussed the effects of a new fishery policy in mainland China. Using a sustainable livelihood framework, she talked about how the government has tried to get some people to engage in tourism instead of fishing. Her study is mainly qualitative research, using participant observation and interviews. Instead of concentrating on policies, she suggested that it’s more important to consider the livelihood of local people.
