The Boys is set in a universe where superpowered Vought International, which ensures that they are titular Boys, vigilantes looking to keep the corrupted heroes under control, and the Seven, Vought International premier superhero team. The Boys are led by Billy Butcher, who despises all superpowered people, and the Seven are led by the egotistical and unstable Homelander. As a conflict ensues between the two groups, the series also follows the new members of each team: Hugh "Hughie" Campbell of the Boys, who joins the vigilantes after his girlfriend is killed in a high speed collision by the Seven's A-Train, and Annie January / Starlight of the Seven, a young and hopeful heroine forced to face the truth about the heroes she admires.

The scary part is that Vought could easily spin Lamplighter's suicide to make it look like Hughie "murdered" Lamplighter.

People talk about how weak Lamplighter must be to be susceptible to his own fire. But prior to this we saw him turn a 4” solid steel door into liquid at the asylum, using just the tiny flame of a lighter. Imagine the power he’d have with his staff. The amount of intensity he can manipulate fire into is obviously gnarly. Considering he has Compound V in his veins, and didn’t really get hurt by the vomit guy’s acid, we can assume he’s much stronger than a normal human..I’m guessing he “turned the stove up” quite a bit on those flames to make sure he’d die. After all, it was an /on purpose/ suicide.

Well now we know iceman can take on lamplighter any day. Iceman didn't die either with the sentinels. He's an omega level mutant who can come back even after that. He's basically immortal when in ice form. Lamplighter dying like this is akin to the acid do melting his own face off. You think you would have immunity from the element you control.
