As a United supporter I hope we walk away from this one.

People at Real Madrid like his ability...for Everton. This Boyland character is quite funny.

Let’s hope not for £70m or £150k in wages both are ridiculous

This Patrick is licking his lips on the prospect of getting United's money. Bigging Braithwaite up the whole way. He can't even, with a straight face, say he's worth over 70mil. He just wants United to make another mistake and get his club to solve their FFP issues off the back of it.

United might be fully aware that Branthwaite will be priced out of a move this summer. They might be submitting one or two bids in the region of 35-50M early on, anticipating Everton to reject those bids. And then do what they have said they would do, walk away and not pay "extortionate fees", just to showcase that they are willing to play hardball. That might make it easier for them to avoid the "United tax" later on in the window when they put in a bid for a RCB, which should be a higher priority anyways.

Everton cooking the books with that valuation

Jarred Branthwaite is valued at 35m GBP on Transfermarkt. They've got some proper standards when they're pricing players, not just going by the hype.

I hope United get lucky and back out from the deal

Why was he not chosen by Southgate given our shortage in that area?

This is the problem: The Press wants Man United to keep wasting funds on British players of limited value whilst discriminating against foreign players and coaches!! This trend must stop if Man United will ever progress into a side that consistently competes for the title. I was hopeful the Athletic will break this mold!

United fans here who haven’t watched Branthwaite chatting utter wham. He’s easily worth £70m. I wouldn’t want to sell him at all if it weren’t for the dire financial situation. Much rather we got rid of Onana and kept Branthwaite. Considering we were bottom half he was a big part of why we had the fourth best defense in the league last year. He’s 6’5”, completely two footed and reads the game like a veteran. He’s better than Stones was when he played for us and we got £50m for him about 8 years ago. Easily worth £70m.

Like the lads say, Everton don't want to sell. They're not taking the mick, the valuation's high because they want to keep him.

Utd are not entitled to the best players because of who they are. As an Everton fan I’ve watched this guy play regularly and he is the best English centre half easily. I hope he stays.

The initial offer was derisory. He will be £100 million player in the next few years. If Utd don’t want to pay then fine just go elsewhere. Pathetic that these clubs wash these deals in the press to upset the player and drive the price down.

You don't pay more than 45M for potential at CB and he will need to improve as his not good enough yet. Patrick thinks there will be a bidding war but in reality there are only a handful of clubs in Europe that would pay more than 50M for a CB and only 1-2 that would spend that on a 21 year old. He better hope Real doesn't want him as they won't pay big money. They will offer 40 max and if you don't accept it's proven the player will either just go on strike, say they won't sign for anyone else or run their contract down and leave on a free. Comparing Branthwaite with Maguire who was far older, had years in the EPL and played well at international tournaments with england is disingenuous. Gvardiol also played CL football, international tournaments and had seasons of top level form. If Jarod was french he would cost 35M, he isn't on the level of Yoro who is a better player and is only 18. Let's stop doubling the price of anyone who is english that plays in the EPL, 70-80M is a wild valuation.

Younger players are getting more game time at an early age. Partially because of the economics of modern football and the sheer number of games being played (injuries to senior plyers and opportunities to play). So, you can get yourself a 20-year-old (even a teenager) with 2/3 years of experience in a top league. E.g. some Brazilian have already played over 100 games for a club before moving to Europe before there 20th birthday

The kid didn't even make the Euro squad where are they getting this valuation of 70 to 80 mill. This is crazy

Don’t care. Just do not pay over the odds.

If United pay anything over £45m for this guy, they have not learnt their lesson.

He seems a good talent, but given the financial constraints of the club and the availability of more proven "young" talent for less, it would be financial irresponsible to pay inflated transfers and then compound the issue with large wages.

I hope not, Branthwaite doesn't fit in with the style United and ETH want to play. Having said that we'll probably end up with him because we need a Slabhead replacement.

Not worth more than 45M after one full season.
