Charles Goodyear Biography - American manufacturing engineer who developed vulcanized rubber
Charles Goodyear (New Haven, Connecticut; December 29, 1800 - New York, July 1, 1860) was an American inventor who discovered rubber vulcanization after going into debt and spending five years testing and self-taught research on this company. This process would give rise to a new material, vulcanized rubber, with which a large number of objects such as tires or condoms are currently manufactured.
Goodyear began his activities in 1821 in the United States, associated with his father in a machinery business that failed. This last data gave rise to stories that indicate that "Due to his precarious financial situation, he had to sell his discovery to a company led by Frank Seiberling, who, having great capital and seeing the potential of said discovery, founded the Goodyear company" however The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1898, 38 years after Charles Goodyear died, and there is no clear evidence that Charles Goodyear made a sale of his patent to Frank Seiberling.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company officially indicates that his founder, Frank Seiberling, named his company "Goodyear" in honor of Charles Goodyear, thus giving notoriety and credit to the discoverer of vulcanization.
