Charles Goodyear (New Haven, Connecticut; December 29, 1800 - New York, July 1, 1860) was an American inventor who discovered rubber vulcanization after going into debt and spending five years testing and self-taught research on this company. This process would give rise to a new material, vulcanized rubber, with which a large number of objects such as tires or condoms are currently manufactured.

Goodyear began his activities in 1821 in the United States, associated with his father in a machinery business that failed.
