I remember watching one performance where he did playback. I don’t remember what award show it was for but it was in 2003 and it looked like he was bored and was chewing gum while performing.

Yeah these award shows just can't set up a real soundcheck and all for different bands of different genres and it's of course a playback.

As a live musician for the last 29 years, I can’t quite understand what you’re trying to highlight, here. Is it that it’s silly to have a network requesting that you play to playback? These moments you’ve highlighted, here, show a musician probably becoming irritated at the guy he doesn’t know, who’s running the sound through his in-ear monitors.

Don't like playback, I like bands like The Mission so much more as they sound better live than on the album. Plus their ticket prices are affordable.
