Hello! Here's an updated video that I think will be useful for all of the new VR users after this holiday season. I've picked up a bunch of tips and tricks of what you should do (and not do) with your new VR headset. Whether you have been in VR for 1 minute or 3 years I think you can find something useful here. Also whether you're a Quest 2 user or an Index user, same story.

Thrill: Bring over a couple of friends to your house. Pulley system is definitely a conversation starter.
Me having neither friends nor pulley system: Seems like a good point

What I’ve learned in this video:

The fan trick works.

I use a small round carpet to avoid smacking my wardrobe/TV.

I now feel no sort of motion sickness (I did at first).

I now fear scratching my lenses.

5, 000 hours doesn't sound like a lot until you know that 730 hours equals one month

Tip#1: Don't put your VR headset in a Laundry Machine

Tip: for motion sickness - have found it helps if you consciously walk on the spot when moving, as does physically crouching down when moving down. When going up - physically look up. Fresh air also very important.

Just a tip for those that have a Quest 2: The headset doesn't come with a microfiber cloth, but most sun- and normal glasses come with one. So check there!

Man I just got a quest 2 today to replace my original rift and MAN, the difference in immersion when you don’t have a wire vs having one is astonishing. I was playing Gorn and was able to turn my body freely without worrying about getting tangled up in the wire, and that was an amazing feeling

For motion sickness, walk in place when you move with stick. It feels weird at first, but after doing it for years, it entirely eliminated motion sickness for me. I play Pavlov Zombies or Phasmophobia for 10+ hours straight (Ellie Dangerous for 20+ but that's just cockpit) and I only stop because I wanna chill for a while

Thanks for the tips about motion sickness. I used to love VR and nothing could make me feel sick and suddenly last year I get so motion sick that I can’t even play at all. I upgraded from PSVR to Oculus Quest 2 and have only been able to use it like 3 times.

I agree with all of these! Especially the FOV increase from the foam change

For oculus quest users, use the stationary boundary. It gets rid of the lines but switches you to passthrough when you are near it. It shows up as a circle on the floor which is not as noticeable but for me, it works fine and doesn’t kill my immersion too much

One tip for glasses users:
Get VR Optician Lens inserts with your prescription. For me it was the big game changer as it improved comfort, clarity and FOV all at the same time.
Also note: that the space between the lenses and your eyes is meant for things like glasses or lens inserts, so using a slim VRcover might cause discomfort and/or push your glasses against the lenses (the latter *will* scratch your glasses and lenses)

ThrillSeeker: "of course you still have to use your left thumbstick for moving"

Me: "That's what you think"

11:02 I rarely use the right thumb stick to turn when i play blade and sorcery nomad on my quest 2, I’d only use it to jump and crouch

Thrill: By not using snap/smooth turning it makes VR games harder
Me who never used it in the first place: I Guess I'm a VR god then huh
