It's interesting that the Soviets declared Model and Heinrici to be war criminals at the same time. The narrative about Heinrici in English is that he was not fond of the Nazis and was opposed to the Wehrmacht committing war crimes, and I'm not aware of him being tried after the war, even though he lived until 1971. Then again, perhaps he was not tried because he was helping the US Army with its research efforts.

I recently finished the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, and to see the tensions between the Wehrmacht general staff and the SS was interesting especially as concerns Model, Beck, and the other old timers that didn't step down or get ousted by Hitler before the war began.

Thank you gentlemen. In regard to habits picked up when fighting the enemy … the 2nd NZ Division was reinforced in Italy partly with troops from the 3rd Division who had been fighting the Japanese. These soldiers had a harder attitude towards the German soldiers than the soldiers who fought the Afrika Korps. I was told this by a departed acquaintance who enlisted as a Territorial Infantryman before WW2, was captured in Greece and escaped, fought in Crete and was evacuated; then was attached to Divisional Headquarters in the desert and Italy. He had a particular advantage at Cassino because the German machine guns* were set high when placed on fixed lines of fire and because Don was a short beggar, he could walk under the tracer without having to bend down!
*The NZ Division escaped potential encirclement in the Western desert because the German tank guns were firing too high, as I was told by one of the men involved in that battle.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the German use of "Army Corps" comes from the French term "corps d’armée" (literally “army body”). Yet French speakers frequently mispronounce it as corpse. (From the Latin corpus.) Shouldn't he stick to the French pronunciation? Which sounds like core in English.
