Pineng Powerbank Testing & Review

A look at the Pineng PN-983 10,000 mAh powerbank from iTrueMart Philippines.

A lot of people have asked me about the Pineng brand of powerbanks and I decided it was time to test the brand out. I bought this powerbank for P699 from iTrueMart, although I got it a little cheaper thanks to their great discount coupons.

I tested the capacity of this lithium polymer powerbank using my portapow USB watt meter and a constant 1A 5V load. It measured to 9,800 mAh which is 98% of the advertised capacity. Very impressive!

I was able to charge the powerbank at 2A / 10 Watts (or close enough). This high input fast charging means you can use your powerbank much sooner, without having to wait all day for it to charge.

Whether using just one or both of the output USB ports, the maximum I could draw is around 2A. I guess this was a reminder that this is a budget powerbank. You can draw 2A on one port, or 1A on both ports but you cannot draw 2A and 1A at the same time.

I still prefer my VOXLINK powerbank since it supports Qualcomm Quickcharge and can output over 2.5A on both ports at the same time. But if you're looking for a cheap, genuine high capacity powerbank with a reasonable 2A input charge rate, this could be the one for you!

5:46 I see your portapow meter was showing 0.15 volts when the power bank had cut off. I've seen some power banks 'leak' voltage through the inductor and diode in the boost circuit even after the boost converter has been switched off. The battery basically gets connected straight to the load - and if that's a dumb load like your leds this can completely flatten the cells to 0 volts. Do you think that is what we are seeing here or something else?

Yeah Pineng is quite a good brand. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought their 20000mah model as it definitely lasted throughout the day charging different stuff like my Xiaomi Yi Sportscam.

i got the exact same like yours. and i did some experiment with charging my phone. my phone is 3000mah battery. and i manage to full charge my battery from 0-100% only twice and the display on my powerbank shows 4% balance. i think the Real Total mah is around 6000mah not bad. p/s usage of HP is very minimal during charging.

Indeed! You are also a powerbank collector as I Do. Actually, I created a Cabinet just for powerbanks only. I'm still waiting for my delivery of Pineng PN 969 at iTruemart, and Infinix PB-10BR 10, 400mAh from Lazada (Sale Php499). I'm been a powerbank enthusiast way around 5years now. And I notice and I never seen any from your reviews that you test the pioneering brand in 18650 powerbank, The Yoobao. And if there's a chance, can you share also to your subscriber the Brand Name Yoobao. Thanks

I hope this isn't just a fluke. My friend had this one, the powerbank itself is ok, but the LCD screen easily breaks (all digits were 'lit')
