I just looked up a bunch of critics' reviews of this film, and they all missed the freaking point. Spanglish is one of the most underrated films I have ever seen. A whole raft of splendid performances with a bunch of varied, layered, and interlocking themes. Culture, racism, parenthood, childhood, screaming narcissism, decency and self-control, and a dozen others without thinking hard. I never watch Sandler movies, but this one is just greatness.

I loved Flor's willing to actively listen and communicate without her ego getting in the way. It led to a mutual understanding between the two which he couldn't get from his own wife.

The little girl is brilliant in this scene. I don’t usually like Sanders, but this is one of his best.

The power of the scene for me is unbelievably personal. I watched this as a young kid with no context of the problems of life and relationships. When Adam Sandler’s character mentions being blown away by the concession of the argument, I didn’t get it. But it stuck with me. Life taught me how amazing a person who is able to stop and concede when they’re in the wrong is. I look for that in people I wanna keep in my life. And I strive to be like that. This movie is amazing.

That little girl reminds me so much of me growing up translating for my immigrant parents in the Midwest

One of my favorite scenes. It's rare to find someone intellectually honest when (s)he figure out him(her)self wrong.

0:33 The reaction of a young girl who was handed a free shopping spree at the mall, and then had it ripped away from her. I'm amazed she didn't start balling her eyes out....

It usually takes someone else's observation/criticism for us to recognize our own hypocrisy. Human beings aren't purely—or even primarily—rational creatures; consistently practicing what we preach takes work, and we all fail to do that work every now and then. So it helps to be willing to hear out other people when they're trying to show you where you're going wrong. Right on, Paz Vega

When I saw a brief scene in Unknown (2011), the translator was neutral to the German dispatcher to Liam Neeson's character, translating everything without using the tone and body language of the dispatcher.

Here, Christina does what shouldn't happen mimicking Flor seven years prior. I give a compliment on the girl who played Christina.
