Oye Como Va was written by Latin jazz and mambo musician Tito Puente in 1963. This version features a Hammond B-3 organ with a little Leslie effect and electric guitar playing what was originally the flute melody and a rock drum kit. The solos are largely based in blues. Santana's version hit #11 on Billboard's Easy Listening survey and #32 on their R&B chart. Apparently it was inspired by Israel "Cachao" Lopez's "Chanchullo.
