I know you write all the time. You write about what is important to you on those sheets of paper. The words etched on the perfectly blank canvas, they’re beautifully written. "What are you doing?" She cant help but stutter out, both ashamed by her mistakes and confused with his fascination.

Edit: Yall I hate haunting adeline myself. I just commented cause it reminded me of that scene but i do find it disgusting. I read that book when I was a newbie so it was hella good then. Now that I read better books i would say it was pretty mid and ngl hunting one was full of those scenes at EVERY CHAPTER so I always skipped that part😭🙏🏻

He stands in silence, everyone in his group waiting for his answer. He opens his mouth to speak . “ ..It’s dangerous- we shouldn’t go-“ He mumbled . He looked down as everyone stared at him in disbelief.

“ Wait what!? We have to do this, we don’t have any other choice!” Kyle snapped, his voice dripping with frustration. James stayed silent, his eyes glued to the ground. “ Kyle’s right. How would you even know James? Your just to scared to take action.” Ali scoffed. James stood there and took every blow, every insult, every objection they had.

“ Trust me it’s dangerous -“ James felt his throat burn and his lip begin to tremble. “ Leo- You believe me right-“ James turned to face Leo who just looked away.

James clenched his fists. “ We’re going, end of story.” Kyle huffed.
“ Wait- wait.. I know it’s dangerous because - I..” James took a shaky breath, rolling up his sleeves and pant legs. “ I- uhm-“ He stuttered, blinking back the tears that formed in his eyes, waiting to spill out.

Everyone was silent . Nobody moved. “ James…” Leo stepped forward, a sympathetic look crossing his face. He ran his hands along James’s arm. James stood, waiting for one of them to scold him.

Kyle sighed. “ I’m sorry James, I didn’t know - We can find another way-“ Kyle nudged Ali. “ I- I was wrong a rude ..i’m sorry ..” Ali lowered her head.

Leo just stared at James’s scars, pulling out the marker he always kept on him. He gently started drawing stars and smiley faces, hearts and even a note “ Your strong .” It said . Everyone joined in, writing notes and drawing . In the end, even if they failed to find another way, they had each other . And that’s all the family they needed.

I can relate to the emotional depth of this story, it really pulls at the heartstrings.
