The Makings of a Leader | The Honourable Tony Abbott | EP 393

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with Australian journalist and former prime minister, the Honourable Tony Abbott. They discuss Australia’s role on the world stage, the problems facing their economy and culture, how the quasi-cult of carbon threatens the developing world, why new religions propagate where faith has been abdicated, and the looming threat of war as China destabilizes while Putin pushes forward against Ukraine.

Tony Abbott was elected prime minister by the Australian people on September 7, 2013, and served for two years. In that time, the carbon tax and mining tax were repealed, free trade agreements were finalized with China, Japan and Korea; the people smuggling trade from Indonesia to Australia were halted, and Australia became the second largest military contributor to the US-led campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq. Currently, he is a director of the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilization, serves on the council of the Australian War Memorial, and is an adviser to the UK Board of Trade. He’s patron to several charities, including Soldier On, the International Sports Promotion Society, and Worldwide Support for Development.

as a 26 year old Australian, I was told by every angle that Tony Abbott was a racist and that's it. I am very interested to hear him speak, and see if this was just another example of shutting down alternate opinions

How amazing it is to see some Australian politics documented with YouTube comments allowed. Thanks so much to Jorden. Every Australian interested in our position in the world stage will watch this.

I appreciate this conversation being posted on YouTube. It’s great to read all comments. You can read everyone’s perspective in the world and see where there coming from.

I'm a 30 year old Australian, and I remember well when Tony was in, and was slandered as a racist sexist prick by just about everybody, and I remember believing it. It was only when I saw him literally on the front lines in his own community fighting some of the worst fires we had ever had that I realised we had been told a bunch of nonsense about a good man.

As an Australian I thought Tony Abbot was a terrible PM for Australia, but I think he is a good and honourable man.
The fact that he fought the black summer bush fires with the fireies for no media attention is truly amazing, and the unlike most recent liberal PM, he at least deserved to lead.

I just can’t believe the quality of the guests and conversations Jordan Peterson has been giving us free of charge. I’m blown away that this is actually happening multiple times a month. We can’t help but get ourselves back on track listening to these conversations. The world is a far better place because of him

I pray that one day, I will be able to articulate my thoughts as clear as Mr. Prime Minister and John Peterson.

Thank you for sharing this wisdom.

A wonderful man and he was a great prime minister/
It’s regrettable that we don’t have him right now in parliament.
He’s a man of deep integrity and intelligence and leadership.
Bless him and I hope he remains a man speaking out about all our problems in Australia now.
Thank you for your contribution to our country.

As an Aussie, I love Tony Abbot for his ability to get on with it even when everyone's shitting on him, just like old john Anderson great bloke.

Unrelated but I want Jordan Peterson and Thomas Sowell to sit down and have a chat. I don't care what they talk about. Please🙏🙏🙏

Fantastic interview! As a young Australian I never fully appreciated his intellect and have only witnessed constant character assassinations of Tony. Clearly he is extremely pragmatic and balanced in his perception of both Australian and global issues. Such as shame to see our country depart from this solid logic.

I’d love to see Thomas Sowell on Jordan’s podcast.

I am really dissapointed with how I once perceived Tony Abbot, living in Sydney it seemed that everyone hated this man so strongly with a passion that they'd think differently if you didn't have the same opinion. I never had a chance to truly listen to him speak which again is devastating having judged this person without really listening to a thing they've said. This bloke is an utter genius and says it exactly how it is. True warrior, strong character and Austrlaian through and through.

Speaks volumes of Tony Abbott to see Mr Peterson giving him space to discuss Australia. Tony voted No in thhe recent referendum and that shows he wasnt controlled by corporate money. Hope Tony runs for PM. Much respect to you both.

I'm an Australian who was a young _"progressive"_ while Tony Abbott was our prime minister. I've gone from hating and loathing this man to respecting and admiring him. Having said that, I still had no idea he was this insightful. Congratulations Mr Abbott for all your accomplishments. You are a remarkable man

< 31yr old Australian, I was in Tafe when Abbott's budget cuts affect my course and reduced it's length. The only opinion of Abbot among my piers was of an incompetent and blind fool who sold out our youth and arts. Then you have this other end in absolute stark contrast of a conversation about such sensitive and controversial topics that most people are too scared to talk about - and even having been through that experience and weighing up both, I can't help but admire him for having the guts to a long form conversation with Peterson without pause for nearly 2 hours. I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Abbott had to say here and shocked myself.

I think this is a good lesson and a reminder that no one individual can meet the needs of everyone and that some of them are important at what they do bring to the table.

Seeing some hate on here for him, can't say I haven't felt the exact same at 20, but I listened to this without my head up my but and heard it for what it was.

I only wish we could have heard him to this extent at the time. My regrets for not understanding the man better at the time. - 29 Aussie.

Well said and brilliantly applicable to all facets of life; most particularly Faith.

As a young conservative Tony failed to arrest the capture of out institutions and he engaged in the most trite of conservative causes. The mining tax he abolished surrender our resources to giant multinationals, a neocons neocon. He is detested by the young right and left equally.
