Waxed Rope Fire Starter

I wanted a fire stater that would burn for many minutes even under poor conditions. I found a way to soak and coat 1/2" sisal rope with wax that will easily burn for 10 minutes with only a 4" piece. The wax will flake off so carry them in a plastic bag. They will light with a match but I would like them to be easier to start. I'll keep working on them and post if I find improvements.

I bought my wife a new tart burner and I took hers. It melts enough paraffin wax for me to do about 15 fire starters at a time and thats plenty enough for person use. Also a good thing to use is paraffin lamp oil i use 1 cap to 1 bar of paraffin wax.Great video my friend!!!

Love these. Started making these when I was in the military, soak your rope in some lighter fluid, let dry and repeat a few times. Then dip in wax. Burns for at least 5 minutes, and burns hot enough to get wet wood going

The rope starters are ok but I keep going back to cotton balls. My favorite recipe is to saturate the cotton ball with a melted, 50/50 mix of wax and petroleom jelly, then squeeze back out as much as possible between to flat plates. When cool, they take a fero rod spark very easily and burn for just under 10 minutes. You can fine tune them to the weather by adding more petroleom jelly when very cold or less for higher heat. TY

The secret to getting the kindling going is getting really really small stuff the size of a pencil a pile of stuff maybe twice that pencil size....then pinky size then thumb sized. We call it changing start with piles of different sized tinder then progressively add larger diameter to smaller diameter.

Wonder if you could dip the rope in citronella oil then dip in wax? Think I'm going to try that once excellent video!👍

Wonder how it would burn if after removing and still wet you sprinkled some black powder on it then leave to dry. I do not dip but let it soak in liquid till the bubbles disappear..

Dip Sisal rope in molten beeswax & powdered camphor ( for better igniting ) mixture . Beeswax is very tacky and will not flake off .

I use these in the rain other then that one piece of paper and a hand full of sticks is all you new to start a fire 😂 be a man 😂 rub to sticks together and make fire then it becomes extremely easy to light in any condition
