Thundercoaster Front Row POV Tusenfryd Vekoma Wooden Roller Coaster

This is one of the few Vekoma wooden coasters ever built, and interestingly enough, runs with Timberliner trains from The Gravity Group! It certainly makes for an odd ride experience- but packed with airtime!

Wonderful to see Thundercoaster so well looked after by Tusenfryd after all these years. I was the engineer that designed the layout for this ride back in 1999 when I worked at Allott and Lomax in the UK. Originally Vekoma were not involved at all in the project - the ride was designed to run with PTC trains and was going to be built a US company called Coaster Works. Vekoma stepped in at the last minute and effectively "bought" the project because they were in the phase where they wanted to be able to offer both steel and wooden coasters to the industry. However, they wanted to use their own trains (naturally) and we were horrified to find out how heavy they were in comparison to the PTC coaches (remember the bulk of the design had been finished!). The other two coasters they did produce from scratch were designed by STAND Engineering in the US, and I remember I had to send them my layout for their review and they were horrified at all the uplift but it was too late to change anything. You've inspired me to make another trip out there to see how it runs nowadays :)

That Autumn view from the airtime hill at 1:03 may be the best view from a rollercoaster ever, it even rivals Wildfire!

Reminds me of The Pippin at the Mid-South Fairgrounds in Memphis, TN back in the '60s. Great wooden coaster with lots of hills. The entire coaster was relocated to Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay, WI in 2010. I'm sure many more generations will learn to love this extraordinary ride.

Thank you much for the great ride!!! No unnecessary screaming, trivial comments and/or ludicrous chitchat!!! Like being there in person!!! Way to go!

I don't care if it's rough but this actually has really good airtime by the looks.

I used to be a big coaster rider when I was a teen and young adult. My body can't handle the crazy ones anymore. This one would be perfect though. Beautiful!

I live in norway and has taken this ride up through the years. I remember them changing the cart/train at some point and I honestly thing the ride is ruined. It does not run smoothly anymore, it only shakes extremely much and it even hurts sometimes. Its really sad as it used to be my favorite. Many of my friends agree too.

It looks a lot smoother now, compared to what it did before the latest re-tracking. Almost like it did when it was brand new, back in 2001.
I still remember it like it was yesterday, the ride experience was great. It made me really enjoy rollercoasters, being my first experience with one. I remember the fresh smell of wood in its opening year. Combined with the great views of the park, it really had a good impression on me, and I rode it two times that day, since the queue was rather long (this was in the prime season on a nice sunny day). I came back in 2003, and the experience was still as good as I recall from two years prior.
I really need to go back there soon and ride again, to get a real comparison between the new and old trains.
Fun fact: The tunnel over the second drop was not present during the coaster's early years of operation, so you got to experience the drop in the open. Some turns has a higher banking than the original, which featured much stronger lateral forces.
