Abbas Alawieh is one of about 30 uncommitted delegates who will be at this year’s Democratic National Convention.

They represent the hundreds of thousands of voters who marked “uncommitted” on their Democratic presidential primary ballots this year, largely in protest of President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.
One of the founders of the “uncommitted movement,” Alawieh said he and his fellow uncommitted delegates hope to use their votes to reshape the Democratic Party platform when it comes to the Israel-Hamas war. And after President Joe Biden stepped away from the race and Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in, they have hope, he said.

Here’s a look at this year’s uncommitted delegates, and what they’re seeking from Harris and the Democratic Party’s convention.
