Fire – 3rd track of the Aether EP

Fire was a whole different beast. From the start, I knew I wanted to show both sides of it, its warmth and comfort but also its destructive and unpredictable nature. Out of all the elements, Fire felt like the most complex character in this EP, like it had a dual personality. On one side, it is a steady glow, something that gives you warmth on a cold night. But on the other, it is an intense force that can burn through entire forests or cities if left unchecked.

I built part of the sound selection around the triangle of fire: fuel, heat, and oxygen. Since oxygen comes from Air, I pulled in some elements from that track to show the connection. But for the core Fire sounds, I leaned into sharp, distorted tones and these wobbly, unstable textures to capture that wild and raw energy. Every sound has this edge to it, something that feels volatile but controlled, at least for a while.

There is even an alarm-like sound at the very start, just to set the tone. Fire is not always safe, it is unpredictable, and I wanted that tension to be clear from the beginning.

Structurally, I went with an A and B section like in Air, but with a way sharper shift in mood. It starts in F minor, which felt intense (also, Fire starts with F), but by the second half, the scale just shifts into something I cannot really define. It just felt right, so I went with it.

This track was a challenge because it felt like composing for a character with layers of complexity. It is intense, unstable, and a little dark, but that is exactly what I wanted it to be. Something that keeps you on edge yet feels complete by the end.
