How to Make Realistic Crepe Paper Rose Buds

A tutorial on how to make a rose buds in four developmental stages using crepe papers. It focuses on how to make realistic rose buds: unopened bud, semi-opened bud, fully opened bud and initial bloom. This demo covers center preparation; cutting, coloring and shaping of petals; and, flower assembly.

Materials and measurements:
#20 gauge florist wire for the stems
#26 gauge florist wire for the leaf set
Aluminum foil (for center construction)
Tacky glue or hot glue
Double-sided adhesive tapes
Japanese crumpled paper
Colored crepe papers
Light green florist tape

S1: Unopened bud
1 pc 30mm x 25mm (grain) colored crepe paper
4 pcs 5mm x 30mm sepals
1 pc 5mm x 45mm sepals with bract
1 pc 5mm (grain) x 150mm strip of crepe paper

S2: Semi-opened bud
1 pc 30mm x 25mm (grain) colored crepe paper
2 pcs 15mm x 30mm (grain) colored crepe paper
5pcs 5mm x 30mm sepals
1 pc 5mm (grain) x 150mm strip of crepe paper

S3: Fully opened bud
5 pcs 15mm x 35mm (grain) colored crepe paper
2 pcs 15mm x 40cm (grain) colored crepe paper
5pcs 5mm x 30mm sepals
1 pc 5mm (grain) x 150mm strip of crepe paper

S4: Initial bloom
5 pcs 15mm x 35mm (grain) colored crepe paper
3 pcs 15mm x 40mm (grain) colored crepe paper
8 pcs 20mm x 40mm (grain) colored crepe paper
2-3 pcs 30mm x 40mm (grain) colored crepe paper
5pcs 5mm x 30mm sepals
1 pc 5mm (grain) x 150mm strip of crepe paper

Note: You can adjust the size of the center based on the type of the rose bud you are making. Bud size at each stages may vary depending on the type of specific rose that you are making; so adjust center, petal and sepal measurements accordingly.
