It's not solved as far as I'm concerned. Data analysis can only compare the disappearances to other locations but doesn't identify the actual cause(s).

For example, roads may have a comparable number of accidents but one location may be due to habitual bad weather and another location might be outside a bar/pub so there are more drunk drivers.
