I think the biggest misconception about apologetics is that it's about persuading others of religious beliefs. I think it is more about giving people who already believe something they can hang onto as a justification for those beliefs. I suspect very few people are ever convinced to start believing by the arguments such as Kalam, moral and ontological. It's about letting people think that beliefs they already hold have some grounding in reality to prop them up.

There's a difference in head knowledge and anointed revealed knowledge from God, vail lifted.
It's a personal fellowship/relationship with God.
John 14:26
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have told you.”

From the little I understand, be careful of what adjectives and adverbs are inserted into the point being made. They can turn a splinter into a log.

This is a beautiful explanation. I couldn't have put it any better.

Trying to use logical arguments to advocate for a faith based belief system confuses me. What is the goal of apologetics? To convert non believers?

Jesus sent His disciples out to proclaim the gospel and reason from the word of God but He also said, "if they will not hear your words, shake the dust off your feet". Matthew 10:14 Leave them for God to deal with.
Engaging in pointless debates, arguments and trading insults will do nothing but enable more mockery and bring you down to their level.
"Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him" Proverbs 26:4

Apologetics DO have to be careful not to come across as argumentative and combative. However, many Christian opponents are viciously argumentative and combative themselves!

I watched an interview by Prof. Harry Prosen, explaining how his new book apparently biologically "solves" the problem of the human condition. The overwhelming reader response was that the biological evidence would blow you away.
Every piece of biological "evidence" used was hypothetical, based on established presumptions not fact. Even worse, the stories used referenced words like 'spiritual', 'psyche', 'instinctual' (ie intangible, not 'biological') and The Bible multiple times.
Here is the conclusion of his book: our nervous system "proves" that humans are not bad but instead good. Our nervous system "proves" (with no explanation as to how) that our morals are inbuilt and that Adam and Eve are actually the heroes of The Bible, not the villains as recorded.
The whole time I was honestly waiting for that breakthrough evidence but was instead left confused. The argument I always hear against God's existence is "lack of scientific proof", yet when an atheist Professor tells what can only be described as a story, like-minded people lap it up as if it's irrefutable!
All I was thinking is "this whole theory is stealing from God and branding itself as fact"!
This convinced me of the hypocrisy of the common argument that Christians extrapolate meaning by twisting facts to fit. Honestly, I've found more reliability in the historical evidence for Jesus Christ. Anyone who refuses to see it simply doesn't want to.

Some Bible quotes and The Gospel - How to Get Saved
KJV
Romans 5:12 - Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 3:10, 23-24
3:10- As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one
3:23-24 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
-[][][][]
-(How that Christ died - he shed his blood)
Romans 3:25
Whom God hath sent forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remissions of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.
Hebrews 9:22
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Ephesians 1:7
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Hebrews 10:10
By the which we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all
Faith Alone
Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Galatians 2:21
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
Once Saved Always Saved
Ephesians 1:13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
2 Timothy 1: 9, 10
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as suspending any acknowledgement as to the existence of a god until sufficient evidence is introduced. My position is that *_I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of gods._*

And here is the evidence as to why I currently hold to such a position. Below are 10 facts I must consider when evaluating the claim made by theists that a god exists. To be clear, these are not premises for an argument concluding there to be no gods. These are simply facts I take into account when evaluating the claim.

1. I personally have never observed a god.
2. I have never encountered a person whom has claimed to have observed a god.
3. I know of no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that were willing or able to demonstrate or verify their observation for authenticity, accuracy, or validity.
4. I have never been presented a valid logical argument which also employed sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that a god(s) exists.
5. Of the 46 logical syllogisms I have encountered arguing for the existence of a god(s), I have found all to contain either fallacies or false or unsubstantiated premises.
6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was a necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon.
7. Several proposed (and generally accepted) explanations for observable phenomena that were previously based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered _vice versa._
8. I have never experienced the presence of a god through intercession of angels, divine revelation, the miraculous act of divinity, or any occurrence of a supernatural event.
9. Every phenomena that I have ever observed has *_emerged_* from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never observed a phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance, system, or being) that was created _ex nihilo_ - that is instantaneously came into existence by the solitary volition of a deity.
10. All claims of a supernatural or divine nature that I have encountered have either been refuted to my satisfaction, or do not present as falsifiable.

ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is *_no good reason_* for me to acknowledge the existence of a god.

I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Abrahamic god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence has been presented. Atheism is simply withholding such acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. *_It is natural, rational, and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstantiated claims, especially extraordinary ones._*

I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

The 3 essential parts of apologetics? Make evidence lacking claims, make more evidence lacking claims, then do more of the first or second. Effective isn't really part of the process.

The three things that are essential if you are going to be a successful christian apologist
1) lie about atheism
This is the main one, and Frank is really adept at this, he does it all the time. You know the usual tropes 'atheists just want to sin', 'atheists believe the universe created itself out of nothing', that kind of thing.
2) Lie about science
This is also something Frank does and so does just about every other apologist. Lie about the evidence for evolution, lie about cosmology, astronomy, physics and most especially archaeology and history. Say things like 'science confirms the bible!' and 'archaeology proves the old testament' etc.
3)Lie about what the bible says
This is less obvious but also very important. Do not admit that the bible supports slavery (it does), that it commands human sacrifice (it does) or it contains numerous failed prophecies, forgeries, false claims, contradictions, immoral commandments etc etc
---
once you have these 3 vital skills mastered you are ready to make serious money from credulous believers!

love should be the motivator, salvation the end.
But forget not this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness; but is longsuffering to you-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:8-9. God bless, Matt.6:33, Proverbs3:5
