The father should have stood up for her, but then her fiancée should have stood up for her too, not sure how any man can stand by and let another man insult your future wife and mother of your children like that.

Nah Harold is a creep. There's no reason for an old guy, literally old enough to be her dad to pick on a teen girl and continue into her early 20s. Its painfully obvious why he only escalated as time went on and she started dating and starting a family

My FIL (at the time my husband and i were just dating) had a friend living in a camper on the property and he gave me a weird vibe. One day I came home from work and they both were outside. His friend commented that I looked like I had lost weight and my work uniform was flattering. My FIL didn't say anything but just reminded me there were lefotvers in the fridge for me. As soon as I got inside I heard him go off on his friend. He told him not to ever even look at me or speak to me again. He told him he was a creep and if he ever heard that he made me uncomfortable again he would beat him within an inch of his life. I felt so safe and cared for. I told my BF about it and he just shrugged. 'I dont know why you are shocked. Dad loves you, he just doesn't know how to show it outside of actions because that is how he was raised. He isn't affectionate but he would kill someone for you.'

If my best friend in the whole world, a man who I've been close to for years, said anything even CLOSE to this to a child I had, or really any child, he'd get a singular warning, and an earful asking what exactly his major malfunction is. That is charitable

I literally can’t express how much bravery and courage it takes to stand up to a person like that, amazing work.

If a "friend" of mine spoke to my child that way, they're at least walking away with shaky legs. Worst, they swallow some teeth

I was bullied from the moment I started high school to the day I left, which is 7 years in the UK! I have Asperger's and ADHD, which meant that I needed a support worker next to me in every lesson. I was called "retard" by everyone. It really was as though the entire school was doing it. I couldn't sit in the canteen because nobody would let me sit at their table, which meant that the teachers had to let me eat my lunch in a classroom. I used to get beaten up every day on the bus or when walking from the bus stop to my house. Once, I ended up in hospital with a broken cheekbone and eye socket. After that, the school paid for me to have a taxi. Everybody talked to me like I was extremely slow and strange, even though I wasn't.

On one particular morning, I was more concerned than usual because a boy had been waiting for me at the school gate the previous morning and had hit me over the head with a studded shoe. I could see him waiting for me again with the shoe in his hand. I walked straight up to him and punched him in the face. I didn't just hit him once, though. I must have hit him at least 20 times. A taxi driver pulled me off him. I heard someone ask, "Is he breathing?" I ran away but was followed by about 10 lads who wanted to "kick my head in." I just shouted, COME ON, THEN!" None of them would come within 10 feet of me. Later, I found out that the boy I'd hit had had to go to hospital. Apparently, he only had one eyebrow now. I never saw him again.

Sadly, this did little to stop the bullying, and I ended up having a severe depressive episode about 2 years later.

I'm now 34 and have a good job. I'm getting married next year, and I've just bought a dream house.

Bullying never leaves you. You'll never be the person you would have been had the bullying not happened. I still have depression and an on-and-off drinking problem, but I'm doing well.

Tell your dad that no real parent would let anyone bully their child. Tell your dad that due to his abhorrent behavior he will no longer be in your kids life and stick to that promise

You don't have a Harold problem. You have a father problem. A fiance problem, too, I think.

The worst thing in the story was how the dad didn’t even defend her. That’s honestly so much worse than the guy
