I found this song about a week before my father passed away. I was in the hospital with him, torn between "He'll be fine" and being absolutely catatonic. Sitting there, watching the strongest man I'd ever known before or since, completely immobile, trapped in his own body, I didn't know what to do. Obviously, things didnt turn out well, but I choose to focus that he did, in fact, leave behind a broken body, to gain a new kind of freedom.

My friend just came out as trans. I don’t think that this song necessarily relates directly to that topic. But I do think people need to understand that everyone is their own individual and what they do with their body, as long it is not harmful is up to the individual because expression is something that cannot always be contained by the physical body given to us. Sometimes we need something more to feel ourselves and be comfortable with ourself because at the end of the day all we have is ourself. No matter how close you feel to someone, you will never truly know them. This truth may hurt but it should also help you reflect on yourself and care more about your own self comfort than worry about another’s. We should be compassionate without being imposing
