Imagine being a German winning most the battles and then all of a sudden 300, 000 new soldiers all named John Smith armed with shotguns show up

Shotgunners would rapidly clear German trenches and this tactic was so effective that Model 97s picked up the nicknames “trench brooms” and “trench sweepers”.

Fun fact: as I don’t remember the shotguns name, the trench gun was controversial not because of what it did to someone, but rather because of how fast it could be fired. By holding down the trigger, the gun could be shot simply by pumping it, allowing soldiers to clear trenches in seconds

God I love this series. So cinematic. Doesn't feel like an online shooter, it feels like a dynamic single player experience.

As they say: pistols blow holes in people, rifles blow holes through people, and shotguns blow chunks off of people.

Out of all battlefields, battlefield 1 had the most intense fighting. I remember playing multiplayer for the first time and I saw bombs dropping, tanks blasting, bullets flying by. Made you feel like you were really part of the battle. This is how a battlefield game should make all players feel. The immersion in battlefield 1 is incomparable.

I remember a time when a guy playing for germans in my game started fuming over how shotguns have to be banned on the server because they're unfair.

History really does repeat itself.

Just like in the movies, the reinforcements show up after the main character kills the bad guys

I have this gun in real life. Its called the winchester model 1897 and mine was made in 1910. It still works perfectly.

Another feature the Germans hated about this weapon was the lack of a safety disconnect in the Model 1897, which is a feature used in almost all modern shotguns that require you to squeeze the trigger after pumping the shotgun.... without it, you can just hold the trigger and just pump the shotgun to fire it, one skilled enough could empty the weapon in seconds. This technique was called slam firing, and it was extremely effective in the trenches of WW1.

I miss this game, it was at it's peak when it first came out, kaiserschlat was always full and half the lobby would actually fight and not sit in a corner of the map and snipe

Switching to your secondary is faster than reloading
Good shit

Fun fact in both WW1 & WW2 Germany tried to sue the US for using shotguns and wanted them banned, despite all that was happening in those wars. Shotguns terrified the Germans that much.

Pretty ironic that the assault class being widely seen as the most annoying class in BF1 is technically accurate to WW1

Germany: Imagine using shotguns.

America: Imagine using gasses and flamethrowers.

One thing to keep in mind, the shotgun shells then were made of paper. So slam firing one then was harder as well as reloading. Yet it was still one of the most deadly weapons on the field

Look at the beauty of this game, the atmosphere was perfectly crafted by dice. I hope they get battlefield back on track to being a fun team based immersive experience
