What about mincart elevators? Like the ones where you just look up and hold right click. Can't say I've ever properly tested it, but they feel a lot faster than water elevators to me.

you can make stairs faster, with copying them as roof, and then hold "Run" and spam spacebar

You missed one, when you spam sprint jump sith a block overhead like underground and on stairs it massively boosts momentum

I always use minecart elevators. Sure they take more effort to set up but at least you don’t have to incorporate a waterfall into your interior.

water chain is cheap, fast and easy to make, 10/10

optimized staircase is good and fast, but it’s too hard to make and takes much resources depending of the size (which is generally made for very high heights)
