Hey Rick, if you put your thermostat in a pot of water and turn the burner to boil you can see if the thermostat opens telling you if it’s good or not.

Bummer on traveling, but it will happen! Good on cooling down the engine, damn, salt water rusts everything. Good job on hanging new Life Raft, great spot. All well go Great on the next sail, I can see it

Rick, It’s actually a blessing to complete
all Your work you need to catch on
making your future journey safer.
These things happen for reasons we don’t understand but in the long run protect you.

That thermastat looked like it was in muddy water.
I'm sure Rick has been running antifreeze, that heat exchanger is leaking salt water into the engine coolant for it to get that rusty inside.

Had the brown /rust in my pickup after it sat for so long, complete flush and fill, new water pump, thermostat, new fan new radiator. Now runs like a top.

Good Luck! Traveling anywhere during these times is crazy!!! I think your poor boat is confused it forgot it was a boat it sat there so long! LOL!

When you do your engine work, you should add a tee c/w a hose connection, allowing you to flush the sea water out periodically with fresh water. Especially if you are sitting at anchor for a while. Sorry to hear about the delay!

Make a concerted effort to get a thermostat in there. The engine wear is much worse when not running at design temperature. The old one is probably good. Heat some water to test it after cleaning. The vinegar was a good move, might be worth repeating. Scale in the wet exhaust outlet is another common problem.

Well, You can take the time to fix the transmission on the drive motor. Look on the bright side. 💓💓💓💓
Good luck guys...

Sorry for ya guys. These openings/closings of boarders certainly is a challenge. Hopefully everyone will get on top of this stuff before too much more time and you can get on with your sailing and lives!

Don't be bummed Captain and Maddie, take this time to repair the boat. The overheating issue is troubling. This might be a blessing in the end. Leaving on that long trip and having engine issues half way would be terrible. Take your time and sort out the coolant issue. We want you to be safe and not stranded when you do continue the journey. Life throws many curve balls at us, but this one will give you time to have everything in order. I wish you luck and hope the overheating engine issue is resolved. I was worried about you guys leaving with that going on. Be well, stay safe 😉

A 🧲 might help when you drop those small parts in the bottom… but I wouldn’t be surprised if you already have one. I like how particular you are when important. The boat is looking really nice. Oh my good god with this COVID shit already! I hope the best for a quick departure….. but now the engine? What the heck! Take four….. 🤞

just a tip for those who add water to their cooling systems, use distilled water to eliminate mineral deposits, the mineral deposits will cause corrosion and rust inside the engine. not saying thats what happened here, just a heads up, i used to use the garden hose all the time to top off my radiators till an old guy informed me.
