Dusty, thank you for this explanation! I still don't understand what the annual subscription is for. ???? I was just charged about $20 for the year and it's unclear to me what for. It is also unclear if it would do any harm to unsubscribe. I do use an android phone.

I have never used it, but they just called me. A young man SHOUTED, "DONT HANG UP!!! Your subscription to Google pla...." And that's when I hung up. What idiot at Google hired this guy, who yelled/shouted at me? 5 minutes later I got an email from Google saying my "Subscription to Google Play has been canceled, and: if I send them a new CC number, the price will be $32! Well, no thanks.
