Making a simple gadget for quickly adjusting a drill chuck. Really handy to have when the shop is cold and the chuck is hard to turn.

Great little tip. You always have a great thought about things and it is nice you share with the rest of us. Like Red Green says, "we are all in this together". Keep your stick on the ice.

Cheers Randy

Nice idea, I think I would just epoxy it in as it's not in the way when you torque the bit up and like another poster said, a Steve Ramsey colour would make sure it doesn't get lost. I use magnets on top of the press to keep it when it's not lost.

Great Idea.
So that you know where it is at all times, drill a small hole in the side of the handle and epoxy a rare earth magnet and attach it to the drill press

Thanks John. But does it help you not lose your chuck key? Guess you could paint it a Steve Ramsey colour. I like the quick tips format too.

I for got to say that you can drill a hole in the other end to tighten the chuck. Why can'l they figure that out. Thanks

is this not reducing the leverage? from say a spanner/ratchet type to now screw driver level of torque?

A word of caution, resist putting chains and strings etc. around your drill press..if left in the chuck and sometimes it happens it can become a weapon being flung at anything in its path..I like the idea of making an interlock(meaning the chuck key had to be put in a switch way away from the drill press so the drill will not operate unless it has it chuck key in the proper place!!

Surely it would have been better to mount that horizontally to get more pressure on it? I see you have a hole for a pole or screw driver to do that, but wood would be far nicer to hold

Amazing idea ! ! ! ! !you are Master craftsman John.but one question i have in my mind, do you finally glue chuck to wooden handle or not?

Great idea, no surprise there, your ideas are often simple tenuous. How cold is cold enough to send you back to the house? I have seen your breath in many a video, I try it sometimes, but can only stand about 55℉ before I bail out or fire up the very expensive heat, which I have to turn off to run my table saw in my underpowered shop :-(

Hey john could you give us a demo? Leave your drill press in the freezer overnight and show us how well the handle works in the morning xP lmao good idea though. On a more serious note, isn't he losing leverage by not using the handles on the chuck key instead of rotating it around the central point?

Seems odd but I'll give it a try.
