So I picked up a cheap 10.1" Android Touch Screen Car Stereo but is it any good? how does it perform? and most importantly can we run emulators on it? In this video, we test this $125 Android car radio head unit out. this one also came with a backup camera! They go by many names like Hikity Double Din Android Car Stereo, Binize 10.1 Inch Double Din Android 9.1 Car Stereo and many more.

I’m 100% sure it’s worth it. deleting bloatware, stopping background apps, and disabling animations in developer options would make it much snappier.

Something like this would make a good smart home in-wall display. With decent in-wall speakers and the backup camera connected to a camera covering your front door, it would be better than the usual mounting an android tablet to your wall. Plus the connections are on the back so the wiring would be hidden.

I’ve always wanted the 99 Impreza. Show us the ride when it’s done.

I’ve had one of these in my 300C for a few months. Looks great, sounds great. I’ve had some syncing issues with my Bluetooth OB2 but for the price I really like it. You can’t get any better for the price, quality and look.

In the market for a new head unit. I'd love to see ETA Prime do more HU reviews.

Picking a android headunit really depends on your expectations & use. If your going to interact with it a lot and utilize many of the features spending the extra money is definitely worth it. For me my purpose was bluetooth, backup camera and the ability to listen to my music collection from a usb drive. I never really connect it to the internet, android auto works fine w/ pandora & maps. It is 1gb ram and 16gb storage which I would not recommend but again for me its a media player w/ the media built it so the specs aren't an issue.

It's posts like this that strengthen my resolve to get an ITX-compatible double-DIN chassis to put a Seeed Odyssey or similar into. You can get adapters that allow the computer to read CANBUS messages from steering wheel controls, a great selection of GPS pucks to choose from, and built-in wireless which won't be restricted to 2.5G speeds. Couple that with BT for mini keyboards with touchpads, and that's a winning combo.

Thanks for the insightful and well-rounded video, always a treat!

Please do a follow up on what you end up going with and show the installation in the car. I saw novaspirit tech put a Pi 4 head unit in his car but it looked like way more trouble than it was worth.

i have this exact unit in a ranger. if you keep your running apps to a minimum its great. i use it for music, navigation, and obd live data most. as long as you try not to run more than 2 or 3 apps simultaneously it works great. it will bog down heavily if you have 3 or more apps running.

I've seen these Android head units around and have been curious about them. Thanks for the review and for saving me $80.

I just purchased 2 of these for $39 a piece. Pretty excited to install it in my 99 civic and 18 Soul

I just installed a 9 inch version of the same unit in my 2016 mustang. I had the base sync 2 unit before and it looked like something out of a 90s Mercedes. Mine doesn't have any slowdown issues and works great with Vivid Car Launcher (the best launcher for Android units.) Was glad to see ETA made a video on emulation on it. Naturally, this was my first thought after getting everything set up. Also came with Android 13 on it which was a pleasant surprise

Always saw these and figured I could adapt it into a wall unit for some smart features on my house

I have three of the single din versions of this exact head unit, it’s not perfect but it’s incredible value for money.

As with anything this is the beginning of the next generation of radio units and it will get better. You can't expect an iPad performance from a $100.00 system. Look at the bright side you can download spotify, Sirius xm without a Sirius xm receiver unit, YouTube, Netflix and Prime, Waze, Google Maps, etc. Now since when could you get those in a radio?
