Cyrano Ending Explained | Breakdown | Review, “Cyrano,” director Joe Wright’s glossy movie-musical adaptation of the French nobleman’s story, has been adapted from playwright Erica Schmidt’s 2018 stage musical based on Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play. In this timeless and enduring story, soldier-cum-poet Cyrano grudgingly helps dashing but inarticulate cadet Christian (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) woo Roxanne (Haley Bennett), the woman he loves, because he thinks his physical imperfections make him unworthy of her love.

This movie captured my soul. The love Cyrano has for Roxanne is so pure. How selfless he is throughout the journey of the film is what made me so emotional. The cinematics were so beautiful, I gasped at the colors and imagery from the very first scene to the very last. I love how the film was directed and choreographed, it fit so incredibly well :’) there’s a scene where people are dancing with bread and you would think that that is the weirdest thing but it was honestly so beautiful that i was crying! You have to see this movie if you are the kind of person who appreciates beauty, art, and musicals. Gorgeous gorgeous film.

Peter Dinklage is superb. Since he’s such a wonderful actor I underestimated his singing and sword fighting chops The physicality of the role allow him to shine. The visuals simultaneously possess both realistic grit and a magical dreamlike quality. They seem to manifest Cyrano’s practical life view along with his lifelong love of Roxanne. Costumes and choreography crown this amazing production. The scene/song of the soldiers writing their goodbyes captured the melancholy of their likely deaths.

What can I say it was amazing, emotional, beautiful, a great tear jerker and a real hauntingly impactful soundtrack. Loved this movie so much especially with the wonderful and talented Peter Dinklage who can say more with just a glance than any words possible. Give this guy an Oscar already!
Haley Bennett was expressive, charming and charismatic. I won’t give away the heart wrenching ending but prepare yourself to have your heart shattered in a million pieces. A honest and deeply moving love story for the ages. Watch it!

This CYRANO is the 4th production of the great romantic French play that I've seen. It's main character compares quite favorably with all of the stars I've seen: Jose Ferrar, Gerard Depardieu & Richard Chamberlain; plus it's also the most unusual version because of Peter Dinklage's amazing personage & talent. All the other Cyranos only had to overcome their tremendously unusual noses, But Dinklage has to overcome lack of height plus prejudice about his body type. Set in the early 1800's, diversity was not made favorably inclusive. Those who enjoyed Dinklage's amazing character in "Game of Thrones" will have no trouble appreciating Dinklage's towering performance in this movie based on the screenwriter's original theater production.
Additionally, it's a gorgeous production throughout, especially the early theater scene which features the most amusing choreography of performing lambs.

Not just pride but also honoring that Roxanne was attracted to Christian in a way that did not happen with Cyrano. I loved everything about the movie except the ending starting from when Christian almost commits suicide. I would have had roxanne figure out the attraction to Cyrano by herself just like she found for christian, and we all could feel in the balcony scene when she was actually speaking to cyrano and was feeling the real deal she had been waiting for all these years.. and confronted him about writing the letters and being there on the balcony that day and told him that she loves that person who was there and she believes its him..

Easily one of the best films I've ever seen.

Really distracting that you can’t say Cyrano’s name correctly.

Thoroughly enjoyed it because of Peter Drinklage absolutely heartbreaking and charismatic central performance. He is a natural and relatable leading man. Production design and photography are both to die for. The songs aren't particularly memorable but they fit easily into the narrative and there is just the right level of camp. Although a particular song set in the last, very different portion of the story, is unexpectedly moving.

The very last scene left me questioning the pacing but, overall, I highly recommend this film

What a amazing movie it had amazing songs and really good choreography and it was emotional and romantic with some fighting scenes too. You have the amazing Peter Dinklage in this movie playing the lead role as Cyrano and you have Hayley Bennet playing Roxanne in the movie who is the very lustrous woman who is loved by many men and Cyrano is very poetic and a amazing swordsman.

So this movie is a screen adaption from a musical and they executed it very well indeed with a amazing cast and with amazing songs and the story of the movie was very good and simple to understand so you basically have Cyrano who is a very poetic and mysterious guy who is in love with this woman called Roxanne but Cyrano does not think he is worthy enough to be with her he thinks that his appearance prevents him from being with her so she ends up falling in love with someone else who is one of the new guards played by Kelvin Harrison Jr but then he is the opposite of Cyrano because the guard who is called Christian looks all handsome but he can’t express his feelings or write poems like Cyrano can and that’s what Roxanne loves all of the poems and the expressive words so Cyrano ends up helping Christian to write poems and to express his feelings and that does work for a while but their are some shocks and twists as the movie goes on so be prepared to find out what happens because it is a shock.

So yeah it is a emotional rollercoaster of a movie but in a good way and I definitely recommend that you watch this movie as soon as you can because Peter Dinklage is just a amazing actor he just has this sort of charisma that you don’t get with many other actors and he just plays his role so well and the movie is just so emotional and shocking but also it’s humorous and entertaining and like I said it has some good fight scenes in the movie so yeah and good songs and dancing too so it has a bit of something for everyone.

So yeah I definitely recommend that you watch this movie as soon as you can because as musical movies go this is up their with some of the best.

It's so hard to say this as I love the story and the actor Dinklage. I couldn't wait to see it and was disappointed. I agree that the lead female's acting and voice was lovely. I'm sorry it just wasn't believable as a musical. It was just wrong. The script (poetry) was beautiful but when put to the simple, unimpressive score, I'll admit it made me laugh more than once; I just couldn't take it seriously. It didn't work! Honestly, I didn't read ahead that it was musically based and awaited a good drama. So...when i realized there would be singing, I thought...."oh oh". Perhaps my expectations for a brilliant drama w/Dinklage set me up. I'm an opera singer and voice teacher and though that matters not, it was a bit painful hearing Dinklage's off pitch singing as I have such respect for him as an actor; admittedly, it lessened his performance (for me anyway). The best Musical ensemble goes to the soldiers who wrote letters home, the best voice was the first soldier and that scene was believable. So, hats off for the effort, the casting, beautiful costumes and sets. I would be in disbelief if 'Cyrano the musical' was recognized at the oscars for anything more than, 'a good try to get on board the musical/big screen bandwagon' bu no match for the incredible work of Lin Manuel Miranda who has brought transformative musical life to the big screen through his flawless choices. I agree the director's choice to stay period, (though beautiful) didn't work. It's just a horse of a very different color with Cyrano. Feeling very strongly about this. Go see it for yourselves and let me know what you think.

Peter Dinklage stars as the lovesick 17th century soldier/poet in this delightful screen adaptation of the stage musical--which also starred Dinklage--from 2018. For the uninitiated, Cyrano has loved the beautiful Roxanne ever since they were children, but has never been able to tell her; when friend and fellow solider Christian also falls in love with her (and vice-versa) Cyrano suddenly finds himself up against an unexpected rival--and when the inarticulate young Christian recruits Cyrano to help him woo her with his poetry... A lush score, gorgeous scenery, and brilliant performances, particularly from the star-crossed leads (Dinklage and Haley Bennett, as Roxanne, have two of the most expressive faces you will see on screen all year) combine to make "Cyrano" swooningly romantic and--yes--even heartbreaking. Can Dinklage carry a tune? Not really. But Bennett, who has some of the loveliest songs in the film, more than makes up for it. Also starring Kelvin Harrison Jr. as the handsome but slow-witted Christian, and Ben Mendelsohn as the evil and lascivious De Guiche. Can't wait for the Oscars--this film may be winning a bunch.

This never happened to me before. It was the first time I nearly walked out of a film because it was so bad in the first half hour and later there was a scene that was incredibly moving and made it overall worthwhile. More on that in a moment.

First, to recap the film suffers from force-feeding nearly everywhere. A love-at-first-sight scene that reads more like an awkward staring contest. A leading woman who is intended to be captivating and beautiful and instead comes off repugnant because she's as shallow as spit on a rock and cruelly oblivious to the emotional needs of others. A fight scene intended to prove our hero's lethal vigor yet comes off as comically bad as he vanquishes a mob of would-be assassins despite being significantly outnumbered and outweighed - a scene so unrealistic that even the villain of the story later tries to explain away by saying the next batch of assassins will be of higher quality.

In one of the worst moments, as Roxanne callously ignores Cyrano's blatant love for her despite their noses nearly touching and his eyes weeping adoration, a group of people synchronize-dance with loaves of bread above their heads. Perhaps this implies the film is half-baked? Even the final moments feel forced as the tragically deceased former love interest Christian's existence appears permanently forgotten as the self absorbed Roxanne has now decided to obsess over Cyrano, who of course still bleeds from a wound suffered three years ago for a final dose of contrivance.

All that said, I did find myself profoundly moved by a scene in which three soldiers hunkered in a cave take turns singing to their loved ones before heading out to a battle that will likely be their last. The raw, stripped down emotion was brutal, no doubt all the more so because of the nightmare being acted out on the Ukrainian people this week and images shared of tearful farewells as mothers and children leave to seek safety while fathers stay behind to fight. So I commend that moment of film making for exposing that most awful aspect of all war, the finality of tragic death. In the case of this film, an actual gem buried in a heap of costume jewelry and for me worth the price of admission. Or at least just enough to make me feel it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Ending explained?? Does Cyrano need an explanation? I mean, really? You can make all the allegories you want, but here is why he dies dies.

He was shot by a musket ball, which would have been made with lead. They were very small balls that were nearly impossible to remove surgically. Essentially, he has been slowly dying of lead poisoning. That’s why he speaks of a wound that never really healed and was ready to end it.

0 stars for quality of acting, plot, script. 5 stars for set design, lighting, location, costume, choreography, music - anything involving the visual or auditory gets 5 stars. This film was completely let down by the cliche amateur acting and most of all by the script and plot development, not to mention the unlikeable characters. You're supposed to feel something but can't summon up any feelings for any of the characters who are simply unlikable - particularly the diva Roxanne who has married Christian based only on his looks. Plot development is completely lame and weak - blindsiding you with one thing then another with no time whatsoever for dramatic tension. The star of the show for me was a bit part actor in the middle of a cave with mud all over his face (the third to sing of the three sending letters home) who acted superbly though his song - very believable. The maid did well. Cyrano did well .. but the other 2 leading characters were so lacking. Imagine Kirsten Dunst or Carey Mulligan - they would have given Roxanne so much more depth. I would have given anything for an actor the caliber of Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington as Christian .. cliche 'I am in love' facial expressions and 1D amateur acting doesn't do it for me - I want something rich and believable, nuanced and masterfully done ... Hollywood needs to go find some young Morgan Freemans and Denzel Washingtons.
