The PVC transformation process starts with dry blend preparation in the turbomixer incorporating all the raw materials necessary for its formulation. Use of pigments in this process is common, but it suffers from some disadvantages. Due to the particular volatility of pigments PPE needs to be used when handling it, to protect workers’ health on the other hand they make maintaining and cleaning the weighing area much more difficult. Vacuum appliances may need to be used to collect the volatile components

Use of Masterbatch in different pellet sizes depending on application offers significant advantages during the weighing process. There is no need to use PPE and the encapsulation of the pigments avoids producing dusty environments, so making it easier to keep the facilities clean. Possible errors during weighing and handling are also greatly reduced, as the Masterbatch usually provides the required pigment combination in a single material. Once the pigments or Masterbatch have been incorporated in the dry blend, mixing begins in the turbomixer. Using Masterbatches ensures uniformity of colour between production batches thanks to the complete development and dispersion of the incorporated pigments, so preventing the possibility of agglomerates appearing that could cause quality defects in the product colour

If pigments are used, production needs to be stopped for long periods of time when discharging and cleaning the turbomixer and vacuum appliances and human resources are needed for cleaning, resulting in high economic costs. Neither can the use of pigments guarantee colour uniformity, meaning that colour corrections often need to be made on the line with the subsequent additional costs. Use of Masterbatches reduces turbomixer cleaning times by around 80% increasing production capacity and dramatically lowering cleaning costs.
