Hannibal Barca, who was mentioned by Napoleon, also said a quote like that. He said that he ranked himself 3rd, Phyrrus of Epirus 2nd and Alexander 1st. And when Scipio Africanus asked him "And what if you had beaten me [at Zama]" he responded he would put himself on number 1, making both commanders laugh.

I feel like the thing that made Napoleon far more special was his beliefs outside of war. He believed in equality. Meritocracy over nepotism and competency over rank. He believed in individualism. He was pretty mich the first "modern man".

Europe has always thrived at war, I don't understand what people have against Euro-centricity, Europe has always been acknowledged for their professionalism in war, its kind of their thing.

A lot of people don’t realize that Genghis Khan was very simple with his diplomacy. He was ruthless to any who resisted, but rewarded those who accepted his terms. I know that’s an oversimplification, but he was consistent in giving others the chance to join his Empire peacefully or face his wrath.

Another aspect of him was that he was very adaptable. He didn’t hamper his Mongol armies to fight strictly in the Mongol way. If there was a foreign tactic or equipment that would help him be victorious. He wouldn’t hesitate to implement it.

I like a quote he said about one of the independence generals of my country (Mexico) Jose Maria Morelos y Pavón, "With 5 such men as Morelos, I could conquer the world", dude was given a tiny army, dying from hunger and severily lacking equipment with Morale crushed from defeat after defeat that even took our nation's independence fathers lives, their head hanging in public to put salt on the wound, and managed to keep the war going with the insurgents going strong

I would have to put Hannibal Barca up there. The Battle of Cannae was an absolute masterpiece of battlefield manoeuvres and tactics.
But overall a conqueror is only as good as the generals that surround him. Without the qualities of Murat, Ney, Davout, Cassander or Ptolemy both Napoleon and Alexandre wouldn't have achieved a fraction of what they did. This was before the radio so once the battle started every general was on his own to carry out his part.

Napoleon fought more battles than any general in history, and most of them he won. So, he is the best general of all time. He is the only Master of Europe.

To a certain extent this is Euro centric, because there are actually many brilliant commanders from Asia. Especially from Japan, China, and the Middle East

If I remember correctly, Suvorov has the best winning story of all. Especially considering how often Suvorov defeated an opponent who outnumbered his army.

Napoleon is number 1 every day of the week, anyone who tries to argue Khalid Bin Al-Waleed is better are all biased people.

one I would definitely add would be that of Fabius the Delayer, the man who engineered Hannibals defeat. He was possibly the greatest longterm strategist in world history

Next time somebody complains to you about Eurocentrism, remind them that they’re speaking to you in a European language.
