A rich slice of my impressionable youth. Our friend Walker wrote Love In The Ruins taking place in "Paradise Estates", based on the golfing community of Tchefuncta Estates in the late 1960s where he was a member, where I grew up.. Walker played golf with our dads, frequenting the club bar while our moms would have weekly prayer meetings and such with his wife Mary. The clubhouse bar is where I would occasionally encounter him. In RUINS, I knew most of the locations, organizations and characters that he would so artfully paint. Every few years I take a trip back to my youth in the pages of Love In The Ruins. Thank you Walker Percy. Rest easy.
