Driving the Cassiar Highway to Alaska + Our Tips

Driving the incredible 450 mile long Cassiar Highway to Alaska! On this highway we saw gorgeous scenery, and lots of bears!!! We had the most bear sightings on this highway than anywhere else on our trip. Especially around the Bell 2 area. It was awesome going from not having seen any bears in your life to seeing so many in one day!

As we travel north, we notice the day getting longer and the sun setting later. And we get a stunning 10:30 pm sunset. Absolutely on fire!

We also comment on the actual condition of the road that is the Cassiar Highway and provide valuable tips if you are planning on traveling this highway to Alaska.

To end the video, we leave British Columbia and cross into the Yukon. Stay tuned!

I honestly think that Artic Fox was a much rarer sighting than the grizzly was. To see an Artic Fox in that environment while hunting is a pretty special experience. Really cool video guys!!!

On our trip down the Cassier (heading south, opposite of your trip) near the end of July 2023, we were stopped at a roadblock about 20 miles after turning onto the Cassier from the AlCan … we were told that we could not stop or camp anywhere along the highway for 25 miles due to the forest fires nearby. We could smell the smoke and see the haze to the west. That was creepy. We did stay in Jade City in a nice cabin right by the Jade store. No worries about the smoke or fires by the time we got down there! We did get gas in Dease Lake, I think it was $2.29/liter (gas, not diesel), and we did get a couple of things in the store. We thought about going to Stewart and Hyder but the weather was crappy so we decided against it.

Great video ! Nice to see some changes along the way, I traveled through In 2005 I think about 200km or more was still gravel, was still beautiful just a little slower pace, This past Sept I went to Watson lake then north to do some back roads to Ross river then south Canol road Some days only drove 100km then some hikes, No set points to be at just stop when we wanted & just take it all in, In the next couple years I want to do the rest of the Yukon,

Most map apps allow you to dowload maps ahead of your trip. Very helpfull, without internet.
Great trip!

What mpg did you get with your slide-camper?

Still love hanging out with you guys! We're especially enjoying lately because we used to live in Glennallen, AK. Which video editing program do you suggest I use for a startup Youtube channel? I used davinci 16 a few years ago but it was a steep learning curve and although I was getting the hang of it, I thought I should check to see if there are other suggestions before resuming.

When you say just a little section that wasn't paved, how much distance do you mean?

Did you just pull over when you go tired and camped for the night where ever you wanted? Where you able to that all through Canada?

What’s the speed limit from the border to Alaska?

Welcome to Northern BC. Buy gas when you can, the next gas station may be out. And don't drive an EV.
