Am I the only one who feels like this should be an Onion headline?

Hey there Trevor x
Maybe you could explore this weird culture today (yeesh... I'm talking like an old man already... I'm 54... grrrr!) because there seems to be this attitude that a holiday is not a holiday unless you've travelled to another country. This 'flight to nowhere' phenomenon appears to fill at least part of that ache in the modern human psyche.
I didn't get on a plane until I was 19 and that was for a job interview.
I didn't travel to another country for a holiday until I was in my 30s. Although I had travelled abroad for other reasons.
Throughout my childhood and teenage years we had many holidays at my grandparents' caravan (50 miles away) and we had regular holidays to Devon and Cornwall (and one to the Isle of Skye in Scotland) and they were GREAT holidays...
For some strange reason the young people of today cannot equate a holiday and a staycation.
When I was in High School only ONE of my friends and their family regularly travelled abroad for a holiday (to the Greek islands to be precise)... Now the whole concept of holiday seems dependent upon travel (often by plane) over huge distances and involving foreign nations.

From what I heard, the Qantas flight leaves Sydney and flies around for 7 hours and then lands back at Sydney. There are a few reasons:
1- the pilots need to maintain a minimum amount of hours,
2- it keeps people employed,
3- loads of people just love flying, no matter where they go, or don’t go lol

Personally, I’d only do it if it were a flight over Antarctica, which Qantas does do from Melbourne during the summer months.

Considering that I have been stuck at home office for almost 8 months and due corona I can’t really go anywhere (specially because I am pregnant) the idea of getting on a plane and come back to the same place it is kind of compelling... a imaginary vacation....

Maybe protesters should not block traffic.

The flights to nowhere are the perfect Petri dish for COVID and awesome places for one to share burps and farts with the other 150+ people

It actually makes a lot of sense to do one of these flights in Australia. Right now most state borders are closed & people are trapped in their own state that has covid eliminated, so why not get on a plane & go on an aerial tour of some of the tourist attractions that are best seen from the air, such as Uluru & the Barrier Reef?

The planes are going down to 4, 000 feet to give everyone a good view. There's specialised flying tour companies charge $10, 000 for that service normally, these tickets are less than $1000 each.

I hope they do more of them & get the prices down a little in the process too. Antarctica would be a good one to visit, they haven't run that flight over Antarctica & then back to the airport they left from for years now, fingers crossed it will return :)

NO WAY I'd get onto a flight from a location that didn't have covid eliminated though!
