As a tcg fan they could always have just make good an interesting commons and uncommons. There's nothing that inherently stops you from making good cards that aren't rare
(ignoring popper and stuff, which mostly just applies to mtg, and I feel like makes a inherent statement on pay to win.)

They never learn. People hated the "set" and "draft" booster split, and they finally undid that, but now make the dumbest followup. I don't know how they thought it was a good plan after the "Aftermath" pushback. Boosters are too expensive in part because they don't set an MSRP anymore. The amount of places I saw selling Modern Horizons 3 packs for over $10 is insane, especially with the cost of most singles in the set dropping so low it's near impossible to get that much value from a pack. The price of packs would also be less of a problem if there wasn't a new set release basically every month they expect people to keep up with.

I've played on and off since Mirrodin, and it hurts seeing the game I've loved the majority of my life getting killed by pure greed.

They've been on a quest to slowly kill off their player base, so I guess this is a win for them. And all they had to do was tighten the bottom line, keep business as usual, and ride the occasional popularity spike... for the next 100 years! But alas.

There is no reason whatsoever to make a value booster with fewer cards.

Just to clarify, they've also said these won't be available at LGS's, only at big box stores like Target and Walmart. These aren't a replacement for any existing product, just an impulse option to have at the register.
