There are many gay actors and singers who should be celebrated for the odds they’ve overcome and that’s the purpose of this new video series. I want to highlight gay celebrities who not only mastered their craft, but have also contributed towards the LGBTQ movement in some way or another.
In this week’s video, we’re taking a look at:

DIXON DALLAS
But is Dixon Dallas gay?

As a gay man, I don't give a flying fig if Dixon Dallas IS gay baitiing, I like his songs, no they aren't mainstream, but they are fun.

I don’t care if he’s straight or gay, I like his music.

I’m a gay man and I LOVE him. I don’t care if he is gay or not. The lyrics speak for themselves. I hope he gets rich off this, he is very talented.

I'm glad you decided to tackle this "issue". I first became aware of Dixon Dallas (Jake Hill) a little over a year ago I think. I'm now quite old, gay and married to my husband for 8+ years (just about a year after it became 'legal' where we live, in the UK), although I had been more or less 'out' for decades, but it was never a big issue for me. I have just lived my life and never worried too much what others thought about me and how I lived. I should add that I have lived for many years in numerous other countries as well, considered (rightly) some of the most homophobic in the world. But I have always, including even now, lived quite discreetly (not 'secretly', that's quite a different thing, which I have never been). Maybe it's a function of my own family background and upbringing, but when my now husband and I agreed we wanted to get married, I simply phoned around relatives, not all of whom were specifically aware I am gay before that, to inform them and all were uniformly delighted, and came to our wedding and enjoyed getting to know my husband, the only one who had ever actually met him before was my brother. I won't go into more personal details here, but it's fair to say that there was a much earlier long-term male gay relationanhip in our family (an uncle), long before homosexuality in the UK was even decriminalised, which was widely accepted in our family, but never highlighted as anything special (or even legal!) - it was just accepted, but not made out as anything special or unusual, although it clearly was. Now to get back to Dixon Dallas - I don't care if he's openly gay, or not, or just pretending, or just in it for purely cynical commercial reasons, I like his music, and he's "pretty cute" too, which is a bonus. I can't bear "identity politics" of whatever kind, it's so destructive. In any case, I downloaded and paid for Dixon's 'break out' song and played it for my husband (he is mainland Chinese, by the way) and whilst he quite liked it, he was a bit shocked by the explicit lyrics, which I kind of expected, but at the same time found rather amusing. Personally I think the song is "a hoot". And if Dixon/Jake ever decides to come to the UK to do a concert, I'd love to try and attend, even though I'd quite possibly be the oldest person there and I've never before been to a pop/country music concert of any kind in my life (I'm a classical music and opera kind of person).

In a world where respected, "Christian", theologians advocate so much hate, condemnation, and judgment, who cares if a straight person in the midst of a group of us "acts gay" (whatever in hell that means, ) to fit in. I will take the latter any day of the week.

As a bi man, who gives an eff? This man is probably the best country music artist alive, currently. I'll take Dixon Dallas over Luke Bryan anyday!

It really doesn't matter to me. Gay, straight, just the music I'm interested in.

Are gay singers “straight baiting” if they write non-gay music? He’s all-in on gay content—beyond where most gay singers would go. I’m fine if he writes for a gay audience regardless of what his sexuality is.

I don't know why people are getting their jockstraps in a twist. Not all gay icons are gay, and some of them aren't even men for that matter. So there should be no issue. Plus, some of us needed a new male icon - we can't all be swifties or madonnnanites or gaga gaggles or cherberries.

I love Dixon Dallas, he writes great lyrics that can be read as gay or straight. He never says in his lyrics the gender of the person he’s singing about. I think he’s great, and a little bit sexy. 😊

Unfamiliar with this guy and his music. I mainly come to this channel for more classic Gay pop culture.

It's a puzzlement to me that YouTube will play Dixon's music and videos but you can not quote his lyrics. That said I love his stuff. Thanks for all your hard work.❤

I guess I don't mine, really. But then I don't mind straight actors playing gay (so long as openly gay actors can play straight). I'm sure his music sales would be just as high, if not higher, if he sang about straight relationships, so I guess, what's the harm? Let him sing.

He’s what Wheeler Walker Jr should have been - incredibly humble and deadpan

The gay community is so cringe at times. We only ever claim someone gay (who has not said they're gay) who is conventionally good looking. Think Dallas, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendez. No one was saying that Chris Farley was gay.

Many queer artist have had to conceal their sexuality due to fear of losing their career. The moment he labels his sexuality as something other than straight he faces the loss of a straight fan base. That’s the problem, not that he chooses discretion but the fact that he isn’t helping the LGBTQ community by allowing people to believe his music is a joke all while “batting” the gay community. His music speaks for itself, but what older generations of the gay community don’t understand is that explicit gay lyrics have become a joke especially among young straight men. We shouldn’t allow artist to profit off the gay community all while allowing the str8 community to consider the gay lyrics a joke. Im not really for explicit gay lyrics for previously stated reasons but thats what is seen compared to some of the actual love meaning he hides in his music.
