Welcome back Rugal, we needed a harder challenge to face.

The fact that Team Garou came out like a few days ago and we’re already getting news about another new character is crazy to me. The fact that Rugal is going to be free is also crazy, most companies wouldn’t think twice about making us pay for a character like him (Akuma in SFV, Shao Kahn in MK11). Looks like SNK is definitely living up to the shatter all expectations moto.

SNK! You have no idea how I've longed for this guy to return! I have a love/hate relationship with Rugal but you can't help but like him despite the PTSD he induced in us back in KOF '94 because of his charismatic design and personality. He is THE SNK Boss, and by extension, the OG Boss of fighting games. The ONE that started it all! Seeing him return after 27 years into the KoF Canon brings nothing but smile to my face and I hope he stays with us for a very long time.

I may sound like a masochist here but I'm ready to have my butt kicked HARD again, and no one does it better than Rugal himself!

the DLC that we all expected at the least expected moment

I love how Omega Rugal now has moves from every incarnation all together in one moveset, plus a few added touches for extra flair. Some details:
- His taunt has his 2002 quote, and the pose during the boss segment has his old round winquote from 98 and 2002. I'm also nearly certain his other quotes are references to his previous ones as well, and that he'll have match winquotes that reference his old ones.
- His model is incredibly faithful to the sprites, even with his knockdown attack angled lower.
- Genocide Cutter, as far as I can tell, is both the normal version (light) and Omega version (heavy), with the EX version being the 2002 version.
- He has *both* of his iconic boss themes referenced. I wish Last Dance got referenced, but who knows. Maybe we'll hear the leitmotif in one of the tracks for real.
- Laser eye super is basically Imperial Ray from Guilty Gear, from a couple former boss characters there. He inspired bosses to have horrifying anti-airs, it is only fair he takes inspiration from others for other moves in return. It's gone full circle. It *also* low key reinforces the fact that his fighting style is a composite of multiple styles.
- His Climax super. Where to begin...? Starting attack appears to be Gravity Smash, followed by his usual Omega Genocide Cutter only it now ends with the last hit of heavy Beast Destruction, then finally ends with Kaiser Wave taken to Dragon Ball extremes. This beats out even Re Verse's and Otoma=Raga's Climax supers in terms of sheer flashy awesomeness, in my opinion.

We missed you, Rugal. Welcome back to KoF canon, and *please* refrain from blowing yourself up for a few games this time.
