“Once you hold these longer timeframes in mind, you start to raise the question of what you do on Monday. Does your behavior start to reflect this larger frame?”
— Stewart Brand, co-founder of The Long Now Foundation.

We’re excited to share new footage of The Clock of the Long Now featuring our founders — Danny Hillis, Stewart Brand, and Brian Eno — as the bells of The Clock peal for the first time.

Wow, if I didn't know Long Now I could be convinced this is a trailer to a sci-fi movie! Great work and very inspiring.

The hole it's housed in should be ornate. This is an monument to the ages, there should be a story carved into the walls.

This project is truly inspirational! I really enjoyed visiting The Interval for a coffee last year and seeing a few of the prototype parts.

Amazing thought to create. I loved his saying about the problems not being small but that humanity is capable.

I have been fascinated with this for many years, and incorporated the Clock of the Long Now into my award winning novel - wonderful to see it progressing! I am now curating a playlist called 'Inside MAGE' to help people discover more about all the elements I incorporated into the story.

I laughed when I the subtitles read "music and ambient noise." 😂 Are they dissing Eno?

My primary reason for supporting Long Now (#893) is to make one pilgrimage to the clock, before my own expiration. Too bad it's surrounded by Texas ;-), but Texas is a recent invention and it will likely pass long before the clock does!

Does the design still assume humans colaboration to keep the clock working?

It's quite possible that triple-digit lifespans will be an ordinary thing for our ancestors down the line. I can imagine a family coming down from Mars on a pilgrimage to wind the Clock of the Long Now and then to see the Svalbard Global Seed Vault both on the same day.

Been talking about this for at least 25 years. When’s this project going to be over?

Isn’t this a project of Jeff Bezos? I thought he was putting up most of the money. Didn’t see his name mentioned anywhere in this video. And once the Texas clock is completed, are they still going to build a clock in Mount Washington in Nevada?

I remember hearing a computer engineer talk about how the only people who were worried about y2k were people who didn’t understand how computers work.

I thought that was absolutely hilarious

I am intrigued, but we’ve had them: Stonehenge, Gobekli Tepe, countless sites across America now showing up under lidar.
The trick is making something people may actual value and maintain across centuries. I haven’t seen this yet in any Long Now talk.

Gobekli Tepe, or go home!

What a navel-gazing vanity project. I used to live in Baker NV and the Clock was going to be in Mt. Washington; the big hoopla was that it would make people think in long time terms instead of our usual annual or even quarterly profit shortsightedness.
And yet, who ever hears of this project or the Clock? How could it possible influence the culture or anyone's mindset?
Vanity, truly....all is vanity.
